We don’t know it hasn’t happened. We don’t know what conversations have taken place between the club and Isak’s reps prior to the situation unfolding.

We do man, if he was promised we sell him this is the first thing that would have come out. This hasn't been mentioned at all. It's just ki saying maybe this happened as he's gone to bat for Eddie's comments.

You know this man.

Again, hypothetical. A verbal promise with certain conditions fulfilled is legally

Fwiw i looked this up, verbal promises mean nothing unless written into the FA/Premier League Standard Player Contract and registered. FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (Art. 2 & 18) also require all terms to be in writing and lodged with the association. So if Newcastle verbally promised Isak a new deal and didn’t deliver, he’s got no legal case — only soft pressure via media or agent. This is something that is unique and specific to football.  Obv specific release clauses and all that could come into play, but it doesn’t appear he has one.

Would love anyone who’s an agent or football lawyer to confirm.

I really don't get why you're speaking extremely confidently despite knowing as much as we do about what has and hasn't happened - nothing.

I'm responding to a hypothetical which seems very hypothetical given Isak has been leaking like crazy why would this piece of pertinent information be saved?

You literally came up with the hypothetical and I'm the confident one?

My points still remain, I’m glad Eddie is our manager. Poor guy can’t catch  a break here each summer here. Ffs can’t he just have a normal summer where he can sign players and let us kick on!

None of us know anything.

We know Isak wants away, we know Liverpool want him, we value him higher than they have so far offered. We know a previously very professional and highly motivated player is unhappy, we know Eddie Howe is the only person who’ll speak for the club and he is very deliberate with his words. That’s all.

What's confident about suggesting one possible scenario for why in reality Howe has just said we're not in a position to just tell Isak he can't leave? It's one of many potential reasons, but you're going on like you have the answer, it's weird.

In responding your hypothetical question with a hypothetical answer.

I have a degree of confidence because your hypothetical question is very much hypothetical as absolutely nothing has been said about a promise to sell him. A promise to sell him and a promise of a new contract are basically opposites.

If your saying we've met him this week and made such a promise then more fool us. Leverage is a very simple concept the club might want to learn it.

Surely it’s just preparing people for the fact he may yet go? If he comes out and says they can forbid the move and then Liverpool sign him he’ll look an idiot.

Howe doiesn't have to say that either though. "Currently he's a Newcastle player. He is under contract. As of now, he is not going to train with the team, but I hope that we are in a position where he can soon. I can't comment anymore on the situation."

Look, I would not be surprised if Eddie wants him gone as his sole focus (I would certainly hope given his remit) is squad building. That said, cough up the money or you stay period.

As said in another thread, it feels like the club and Isak kinda agreed that under some conditions he is allowed to leave this summer but if this doesnt materialise then he will stay. And before the end of the window Isak will continue to stay away from the first team, and this is not a discipline action.

I don’t think Howe has given up Isak yet. I also don’t think Isak is allowed to leave for Liverpool or else his agent would already go and tell Liverpool to bid. But he is probably allowed to leave for other clubs, say Chelsea or PSG

It reads to me that Isak has checked out of the club mentally and Howe just feels if he tells him he's unequivocally going nowhere then it doesn't help anyone. He's not in a position to tell him he can't leave because what's the point in keeping a player that really doesn't want to be here and feels like he's being held hostage?

I think Eddie still holds hope that he can either talk him round or be in a position to say Liverpool won't give us what we value him at so he'll have to give us more time to realise his desire for a bigger move.

I’m not going to pick Eddie’s words apart when we don’t know any of the details behind the scene. My instinct is that I don’t believe it’s to do with reneging on a contract. I think it’s more to do with the fact that Isak is out and is aggressively telling everyone associated with the club that he’s out and that he’ll never play for us again. Eddie could easily be forcing Isak’s hand here with his comments. We know how clever he is at saying one thing to one audience and another to a different audience without explicitly lying to either. Just going to trust a man who I think is probably one of the best communicators I’ve ever come across that he’s playing this right

Howe is obviously cheesed off considering he himself said Isak would be on that tour then got left with egg on his face, I think the writing is on the wall and the idea of him "rotting in the reserves" or going to another club is just not possible. I just hope we stick firm with our price and don't let these idiots low ball us and get him for £120M, that would piss me off even more.
