To be fair, I think Bruno and Tonali are both very comfortable on the ball, Joelinton and that whole left side was a big problem today, plus our usual inability to deal with that prick up top for them.

Agree but I think that points toward pretty much all of our wingers being off it and it being time to move on from Joelinton tbh.

We’ve gone backwards under him since tail end of last season. The rot has continued.

Look at our fixtures this season.

Villa (a) Toothless and playing against 10 men against a very out of form team for 30 mins.

Liverpool (h) Raised our game probably due to the crowd being so hostile and the players trying to prove a point, dumb sending off. Should have had a point, threw it away.

Leeds (a) Toothless again, no striker the excuse but again against a poor side.

Wolves (h) Poor performance but Wolt goal was enough against a very poor side.

Bournemouth (a) Poor again against a mid table team.

Arsenal (h) They played us off the park and although we scored first, we couldn’t hang on for even a point.

Forest (h) Ange.

Brighton (a) Awful again. Deserved nothing.

Our form overall is not what you’d expect from a team who qualified for the Champions League and who spent heavily.

If this was Steve Bruce or Steve McClaren the reaction would be very different.

Yes Howe has credit in the bank, but how many seasons are we going to just accept very poor runs of form like what we’re on now?

This game isn’t just a one off.. we’ve only beaten teams in the relegation spots.

I just wonder if the players are just fatigued by the effort put in over last few seasons and nobody who’s come in has seemed good enough to come in and give us a boost. We just look shot and devoid of ideas.

Answers on a postcard.

Very easy like, first few matches our ex-striker was a cunt and we therefore didn't have a striker. Since then we've been a work in progress and some of your others are just not right basically, for example Bournemouth aren't a midtable team, they've only lost to Liverpool away this season.

Today was the only time I think Howe has really made a clear error with our approach to a match.

The Bruce and McClaren point is just completely  insane - we would react differently because it would have been objectively worse and because we know they're shit, whereas Howe isn't. Can't believe I'm even justifying it with a response tbh.

I think we needed a rebuild/refresh in the summer to raise the bar technically. Right now only 2/5 big money signings have worked out and we still don’t have a keeper that can play the ball, even though we’ve been after one for 2 seasons. Hopefully we have something planned for January.

We seemed to have gotten a real rotten run of fixtures with difficult games for everyone against Liverpool and Arsenal pooled in with typically hard games for us with Villa, Bournemouth and Brighton away. But Howe really needs to kick us on and remove the hex the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth have on us. As someone said the other day on here the top teams in the league go to these places and get the job done, we can't just write the Amex off every year, thats 9 attempts in the league now without a win there.

The fucking state of some posts here, man [emoji38]

Same crack every season.

Start slow or have a rough patch early doors.

Players are written off, the knives sharpen for Howe and certain posters get a throb on about the Saudis binning him.

Howe turns it round.

We exceed expectation.

Howe is hailed as a genius and attention turns to the transfer window.

The reaction would be different as they had zero history showing that things would change.  Howe has that in bucketloads.

Yes I agree we will end up improving but we’re never going to challenge in the league with that these spells just being “oh that’s just what he does”

Lots of problems in my opinion. I don't think the midfield works. For the quality we have in that position we are too open at the back and shockingly poor in possession. I'd have ditched the flat midfield a couple of years ago and I still think we'd be better served by a couple of specialists, one to sit and break things up and another to offer more creativity when we think we're going to see more of the ball.

Woltemade looks fantastic but unless we really wanted to sign him and simply didn't bother to pick up the phone, there's presumably a reason why we made substantial bids for four or five strikers ahead of him. It changes our attack. Isak didn't hold up the ball well and often didn't compete for it effectively but he was a real threat, could dribble and create chances out of nothing and provided space for the other players. Our wingers without being top talents were producing top numbers in terms of goals and assists alongside him.

Now we need players to link with Woltemade and players to run in behind but there's nobody who seems to have the right mix of creativity and ball control or pace, anticipation and clinical finishing. Wissa will hopefully change the equation, but if we're going to play both regularly it presumably changes our shape and if we need him to be successful then we probably should have signed two of him.

We have midfielders on the bench who are fully fit, his constant persistence with Joelinton is incredibly frustrating. I don't think I've ever seen him rest Bruno after an international match either.

It's these small things that can make or break a match.

Frustrating.

Fair. Gordon not reproducing for us what he does for England, Elanga hasn't settled yet and Barnes doesn't get a run which I doubt helps much. Think we also need to recognize a huge way of how we played centered around service to The Rat and now we have an entirely different CF and it needs time. Appreciate that it's hard to find much to smile about after a day like today though.

We’re a good PL team but it’s already looking like the  domestic campaign is gonna be a slog. Next signings need to the clever,  technical type of player imo

We've had a lot of transfer windows to buy players with those profiles but there is no sign that's the kind of player that Howe wants.

Howe has won us a cup, had us in the Champions League twice and has turned multiple poor situations on their head.

I can't believe this needs explaining.

Howe has also been able to sign players that those other managers could only dream of. I’m not in any way trying to suggest he’s on that level.

It’s just our form is.

Not sure about this talk of turn it around. Turn what around exactly!! Cup winners and champions league team who had their best player sold in the summer.

We’ve lost a couple of last min games and struggled a bit away. This happens. We’ve played fairly well in patches.

Can’t believe what I’m reading. The man should have a statue, not just “credit in the bank”.

Champions League on Tuesday. Try and enjoy it for gods sake.

his form is 6 games or so. Their form was the majority of seasons. Massive difference if you are actually bothering to look at the bigger picture. Hence why it is an insane take.
