I think youve summed it up. if you achieve a trophy or one of the best things available i.e promotion, you were successful.

Keegan had a successful season when we were promoted so yes he was a success. if we just look at his seasons where we failed to win the league then no he wasnt successful, he failed

I don't see whats difficult here? if you win, you are, if you lose, you arent

It’s not difficult, it just felt appropriate to take the opportunity to try and show you why it’s a ludicrous approach to take and once which neuters much of the joy inherent in the game. I will trade 2nd / 3rd in the league over winning the league below every single time offered

As would i, but i will never see finishing second as success. Nobody plays a game to finish second, thats just first loser

If he didn't win anything, he failed. Any manager who doesnt achieve what the aim of football is should be deemed to have failed, no matter the level

Everyone but Howe has "failed at this club" then.

Keegan and SBR won fuck all.

legends to me.

as is Rafa.

But Roeder was also a club captain.

I'm hearing reports that success in competitive sports is relative, subjective and contextual.

Next week, rocket science.

 Exactly. Imagine your critical thinking skills failing you to this degree.

Keegan turned a team that nearly got relegated into one of the top sides in the country within a few years, but if he'd finished 2nd in 92/93 his time would need to be judged a failure.

Would be interesting to know if there are any Bournemouth fans who consider the man who took them from Minus 17 in League Two to 9th in the Premier League in 7 seasons like.

Does this success/failure thing apply to other parts of life, as well? Like your job?

Unless you make it to the top of company you’re a failure? Or if you’re self-employed and you don’t have the most successful business in that field in the area. Then you’ve failed?

Yes, youve had some achievements, but you never fully succeeded

I said Keegan had a success and was successful as he achieved what he needed to early on. His work in the premier league was a failure though. We didnt win anything. If youre content not finishing first then thats probably why we have been where we have for so long. Just like with our stadium, people love to cling to mediocrity

What a thoroughly depressing, myopic view on life  you must go through life just thinking you and almost everyone else you know are failures then? You should be kinder to yourself and others, man

To each their own and all that. Just seems incredibly baffling to me to think like that. Basically no context or viewing success as something that is relative. Must mean about less than 0.1% of the world’s population are successes then?

Yep you are 100% right in your assessment, cant deny that.

I achieved a masters from the best private law school in the country. I didnt finish top of the class so i dont consider that to be a success, its a minor achievement amongst a failure.

Yeah, that'll be why.

I think really, more accurately it's something more like If you make posts like this, that's probably why everyone thinks you're a silly goose that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Is Tonalis Bookie just a troll that has remained undercover until now? Doubling and tripling down on this stuff.

Nono, no trolling. I think I've put it before but before Dave left we were putting in place to have this place as the first forum to officially break a premier league transfer. We were close on 2 of them

I hope you're a troll overall. Otherwise you must be an event horizon for the joy of people around you.
