49 games: 27W – 6D – 16L

Goals: 89 scored, 59 conceded (+30 GD)

Home vs away:

Home: 26 games, 18W-1D-7L (57–28)

Away: 23 games, 9W-5D-9L (32–31)

And what was the record from last January to last May?

11-1-7. Not absolutely unbelievable, but on track for about 68 points in a season, which would have been good enough for CL...and it was.

4-1-4 away btw

The calendar year argument is horse shit.

You're backing up his point. That's a win ratio of 55%

I do think it’s an indication that our away from this calendar year has in the majority been worse than it has been good. And that’s not just this season.

It doesn't show that at all, it's right down the middle. Complete 50/50, with just 1 more goal scored than conceded.

Did you even look at the numbers you posted?

he does a stellar job in supporting my argument, and then tries to change the goalposts. But even his new argument not exactly accurate. We still had good enough away form to be on track for 68 points in total (home and away) from January to May, getting 13 points out of a possible 27. We had 3 slip ups at home and got 21 points out of a possible 30. 34 points out of a possible 57 in total.

Surely if you had been going that long, you would know that this is literally the best period in our recent history......and be aware of the damage that was caused the last time we pulled the trigger on a manager who had been superb for us?

I'm not saying that there aren't issues that need to be addressed, but fuck me, get a grip.

I don’t want him sacked, but that situation has nothing to do with any decision being made now. That was more about the timing and the utter state of the replacement. I’d like to think the current

lot have more about them if they were after a replacement.

If I do walk away, it would be because of the number of fickle and entitled fans who make up our 'fanbase' nowadays. I remember when our support was second to none.

The amount of people who go to the match just to whinge and piss really turns me off to be honest. I much prefer the crowds in non league.

You mention Robson being sacked, and then you suggest the crowd is now fickle and you’d walk away if they chase Howe - but you didn’t walk away when Robson was sacked with the general support supporting the decision?

Robson should’ve been sacked much earlier, the issue wasn’t sacking him it was Shepherd being fucking clueless re a replacement.

Howe being sacked right now would be massively premature and he should be given the season (unless things really do go belly-up).  But I think there are plenty on here who keep reminding everyone of how in the last two seasons he’s turned this around - the question would be why does he keep needing to turn it around?  Why are we consistently shit before NY?  I’m not sure a corner will be turned this time around

Yeah, there’s a lot of rewriting history from around that time. I see I joined this forum in July 2005, so it must have been on another one, but the general consensus from what I remember was that he should have gone at the end of the season before. We were about on par with Liverpool around that time and there certainly wasn’t the gulf in finances. It wasn’t good enough for them and they replaced Houllier with Benitez. We hung on, sacked Bobby at a ridiculous time and appointed Souness to get a grip of the dressing room. It destroyed us a challenging team and in reality, we’ve probably never recovered. The situation now is nothing like what it was then.

The Robson saga is difficult to compare as, with the benefit of hindsight, we know it was punctuated by a sequence of abysmal appointments after he left. I don't think very many of the fans who thought it was time for him to step aside expected or wanted Souness to be the replacement, nor would I expect a Souness level replacement from the current board once Howe eventually leaves.
