Everything just seems to be get the ball and try and move it up the pitch as quickly as possible which leads to us repeatedly losing possession. We won, but tbh, we looked shite. cubaricho Posted May 2 Share Posted May 2 I think the lineup was a mix of dudes he trusts to give a fuck (Burn running straight over for a hug after the third is an example of this) and players he needs on the pitch just to put in a performance (Tonali for me falls in this category). The 2nd half was obviously torture but we also missed a couple sitters that would of made this look much better. Stopping the rot was absolutely vital. Ending the season on a run of straight defeats would have been disastrous and there's been many an occasion where a team has ended the season in terrible form and it's continued on into the following one which is one thing we can't afford to happen. Jesse Pinkman Posted May 2 Share Posted May 2 Great result and delighted with the three points but ultimately today proved to me more than ever that Howe isn’t the right man for this project long term. He’s amazing at getting the maximum out of limited footballers who run through a brick wall for him but can’t effectively use talented/technical players. If we want to be competing for the title by 2030, which the ownership has publicly stated, there is no chance Howe is the right man. The win today papered over some cracks but I still thought we were poor. Even the first half, it seemed to rely on a bit of chaos/physicality from Willock & Osula to get us in a winning position which isn't going to get you challenging at the top of the league. Second half was dreadful,. Honestly beginning to wonder if Eddie pulls out The Chronicle's obituary section at half time. TheEntertainer Posted May 2 Share Posted May 2 The game today hasn't changed me from Howe out, but it has softened that somewhat. I'd got to a point where it felt like he'd lost the players and without changing him sooner rather than later we'd end up dangerously close to relegation this season. Today was better, but still not great. Very much a Newcastle 25/26 performance, the better team in the first half, then got nervy in the second and let the opposition back in. However hopefully holding on for the win this time and actually getting a 3rd will take some pressure off the players and we'll see more of the first half performance for the rest of the season. I'll take any win against a decent team who we struggle against. If it does and the team actually get going in the last 3 games maybe I was wrong and he does deserve the summer to sort things out.
