The fact he admitted on that Jordan podcast that things had gone stale was quite telling, for the first time I thought he was looking for an excuse.

There is truth in you stand still and you go backwards, however he’s stuck by players past there sell by date and must shoulder part of the blame for the current squad state.

In hindsight Amanda giving Eddie everything he wants wasn’t  the right approach and Ashworth not wanting to give Joelinton a new contract is the biggest example of this.

Also Glenn Roeder got us to same position in 7th.

If you reckon 11/12 and/or 05/06 were better than last season then fair enough. I certainly don't, even if we picked up a few more points.

Eh he kinda did. He just didn't say it was why we lost. Gonna give it a .3 on the Alan Scale.

He said it was a factor in there naturally being a lot of individual errors in the match overall and that it made it a scrappy game, but that it couldn't be blamed at all for the goals we conceded. He made the point after saying the reason we lost was because our defending was shit and we made errors that cost us.

The Chronicle know what they're doing using a throwaway comment like that and putting it front and centre.

Attributing attacking one goal being fruitful and then saying that the switch at HT had an effect is a poor excuse because the other team scored in both halves. It's not a full Pardew but it's something. The headline is dogshit, admittedly.

If any of you actually read the article you would know he said "I don't know if it was a factor. But both teams seem to have a better time of it when shooting the direction the wind was blowing".

Not seeing the issue here. If the gale force wind is blowing towards the goal you're shooting at, that obviously gives you an advantage.

Which was the case for both teams for 1 half each.

Likewise if you're attacking the opposite goal that the gale force wind is blowing towards, then the wind acts like an extra defender making it much harder to score.

Again this was the case for both teams for 1 half each.

So what Howe said was common sense and not an excuse.

But let's all react to the headline and not use our brains, right. 🤣

Hey brother, of course I didn't read it, that is what you lot are for.  ;)

Glad to hear what was quoted on the Twitter post is not accurate because that would be a bit much.

We have had shit away performances for one and a half year and have been carried by the atmosphere and energy the players get from playing at home. Please dont tell me that the negativity from some us come from him having his first bad streak of results.

Its been going on for some time now.

Even the most ardent Eddie lovers last season admitted (rightly) he needed a good start to this one. There’s a lot of head in the sand stuff going on. Thankfully some smart, balanced opinions too.

Aye, the headline is total misleading and click bait.

It's the same for both sides.

No my logic was why would an elite manager join a club not in Europe and sitting 12th in the league?

You can talk about Elite managers all day long. They may not want to come here.

Of course Eddie is replaceable, everyone is.

I agree that the idea of us hiring an elite manager might be fanciful, but they don't necessarily have to be seen as elite today to actually be elite once they get here.

Frankly, Eddie was a great example of that until about 12 months ago.

If we've got the talent at director/board level, it's very plausible we get someone seriously good, regardless of their reputation. I accept I'm one of the first to say that's a huge "if", mind.

With Eales stepping down due to ill health , who exactly is in charge ?

Maybe a reason why Eddies not getting pushed till the end of the season ?

This is a good question.

There's plenty to be concerned about re: Howe but we don't need to start picking on ridiculous shit to make him look silly.

It will take 3 minutes to watch a post match interview with him on our website. It's perfectly clear he wasn't trying to use the weather as any kind of excuse for today.

Shearer raised the point of the pressing, I almost forgot we did that. Last season there was the excuse that we were too tired to do that cos of the CL and injuries. I bought that. But what’s the reason now??

And when we have done it this season we've looked good. Not sure why it's not happening with more regularity.

Fucking hell, if I need to get the Alan Pardew Excuse Bingo cards out then we’re more fucked than I thought.

Ever blame the weather, king?  @Alan Pardew

I may have done that yeah but know it was because I was fwustrated that we lost. I wanted to kick on after that season we got Europa League and 5th. But they bought me players like Vurnon Anita. Ashley was never my mate.

It's getting pretty boring mind after seemingly every away game for the last year and change, that we get battered and seem to not have a clue. Out fought, giving it away needlessly and the press disappearing. I missed the game today so can't comment on what specifically went wrong here, but it's apparent from the comments that it's more of the same. And that isn't good enough. It's also not acceptable to be well up for certain games and then drop points against teams we should beat. Happening time and time again and l fear that the window for Eddie to get a grip of it has passed. I really, really hope he proves me wrong because he's been so special for our club.

Some huge mistakes although after Harvey Barnes basically passed it straight to Brentford leading to a goal he immediately scored so he gets a special dispensation from the King on that one.

Looking at the league table though regardless of how shit we play, it's a joke, nobody in the entire UK would have believed you, if you'd say, by December, Man City would be fourth, with Notts Forest 2pts behind them. This season is turning out to be the season where anyone beats anyone, it's been bizarre, things aren't going great for us, but they're not for a lot of teams. Man City, Spurs, Man Utd, Villa, West Ham, there's only Chelsea who've stepped up this season and granted the amount they've thrown about. I'm beginning to wonder if the PSR thing is actually playing its part now, with sides like Fulham, Forest, Brighton, and Bournemouth pushing, with big clubs afraid to spend.

I suppose it only works if you have a team trying to play through it from the back so we can turn the ball over in the final third.

Most teams are now quite happy to let us have the ball if necessary because if we win the ball in our own third we don't seem to be able to hit teams on the counter and we can't create anything of note against a low block.
