When you have a proven figure though in Howe, it's usually enough to reflect on his  entire body of work here, to understand that this season is an outlier and to get the issues resolved in the summer.

How are we going to resolve the issues in the summer if he's too stubborn to change what currently isn't working?

Also after blowing £250m on utter shite last summer our hands will be somewhat tied in what we can do this summer anyway.

People expecting sweeping changes to the squad and a whole new way of playing are going to be massively disappointed.

When does recency bias stop being recency bias ?

Do we need 4 x seasons of finishing 13th - 17th to be able to say with confidence that what we're seeing isn't a blip ?

Asking for a friend.

2 seasons I reckon.

1. European season

2. Non Europe season

If he smashes it next season with considerably less games, then we know he can do it but not with a lightweight squad.

So then the Q is that assuming we can't have a larger experienced squad (PSR restrictions), is Howe the right man for us if he can only get a tune 1 season out of 2?

Edit - that's very simplistic of course and doesn't include other factors such as who is responsible for recruitment

I don't get this argument. Just because football clubs usually only think about the last 6 months and sack people quickly, it's obviously the right thing to do?

We have an opportunity here to show some patience, improve the infrastructure around the manager and see what could happen. As @llcoolc157 said above, some top managers have had down periods before kicking on again. It's obviously not guaranteed but it could happen.

If sacking was such an obvious option it wouldn't generate this debate.

It generates this debate because some people think he's taken the club as far as he can and that we are now on a downward trend with him and others think he's still the man to turn it around. That's the debate.

Tbf if he'd even shown any signs that he was flexible enough to at least try to change things I'd probably be more inclined to give him time (next season) as a mark of what he'd done previously,  but as things stand the thought of more of the same next year is pretty concerning.

To quote a certain tub of lard who mentioned "the fella who got Bournemouth relegated". Did their form fall off a cliff like ours is doing or was it a gradual decline? I can't remember.

I'd love to keep Eddie, but either way, the board will need to know why we've been terrible.

If it's because he's peed off too many players through his team selections or whatever reason that they dont want to play for him - then thats not easy to fix and he probably needs to go.

If its just a case of a couple of bad apples and everything else is fine - then Eddie should stay and get rid of the rot.

Or that Eddie has just lost the plot and his tactics don't work, but i seriously doubt that, given how great he has been for us in previous seasons.

It's all relative though.

We were fighting relation not so long ago. And then subsequently our season targets have been top 10. Our budgets are tiny in comparison to those elite clubs.

They have been elite for 20+ years.  To even break into that group for our CL qualification seasons is a massive thing.

We were fighting relegation 5 years ago. That was under different ownership and a different manager. PIF/Howe arrived and we pulled clear. That isn't relevant to today though. Since then we have spent top 6 money (around £750m) on a new squad of players.

To even be in this position after such a spend is totally ludicrous to be honest.

What bothers me the most is when I see the confusion on his face during a match, our system has become predictable, there are no tactical innovations, the same elements, substitutions, surprising team composition, few opportunities for young players. So it's a difficult question, but for him to get a chance from me, the next 4 matches will be important. Our opponents are getting stronger, it will be even harder for us to get into the top 6-7 next time. Villa will definitely spend, Pool too, City and Arsenal are strong enough now, Chelsea will also find themselves. If we want results, we have to improve at all levels, Howe too.

No circumstance taken into consideration, not logical at all.

All depends on how rigid he is perceived to be. If he is steadfastly refusing to deviate from the system that has brought us success but is no longer doing so, then yeah his time is up. But I believe he has a bit more about him

He needs to show it then. And quickly.

I don't necessarily disagree but we do say this every summer, about how much better everyone except us will be.

Fairly sure they had a bit of a poorer season the season before they went down. I’m not sure where I read this, and it’s possibly not even true, but Howe supposedly was going to step down the summer prior to the going down but they talked him into staying.

Finished 14th on 45 points the season before they got relegated. Finished 12th the season before but only finished on 44 points.

Can’t open the link, but this would this particular gobshite’s minimum requirements:

1) Howe has only a moderate say in transfers

2) Howe’s nephew is sacked.  Don’t care what his abilities are; nepotism isn’t a good look

3) Howe’s coaching team receives an overhaul - and a massive one too.  Want to keep the silly sod with the Turkey teeth?  Fine.  But let’s have some proper coaches, too.  If replacing your staff every 4-5 years works for Guardiola & Ferguson I reckon it should work for you

4) take some accountability.  No more passive-aggressive ‘individual errors’ pish in the press.  You’re accountable for performances - so fucking own it.  That includes formation and tactics

The two Bournemouth fans I know (ie a ridiculously small sample) wouldn’t take him back

Bournemouth.  Not Man City; Bournemouth

What's wrong with that?

Do you think he has done a good job this season? Predictable substitutions, always waiting for the 70th minute, the same tactics against every team, and then the statements where he manages to explain everything. I'm not saying he should go, well if Emery comes then he can go.

I think he was referring to you calling Liverpool "pool"

If you have to shorten their name may I suggest "Liverpoo"?

I reckon this is what it felt like in 7th century Salem when the town were dragging your nanna out the house claiming she's a witch. You just want her to have another season, but you're standing there powerless as people scream things like "she spends too much money" and "not even Bournemouth want the cunt".

I think people are referring to you making the same point with different words in every thread….
