Arma Gone!

What's the point in this sale? Young, local, doing fairly decent in his current club on loan. Yet we're basically giving him away. Fuck off.

Because he's not deemed good enough for this level? Have you seen anything from him to suggest he is? You can't hold onto players forever in hope that they'll come good just because they're local.

He's 21, not fucking 25. Local, u21 England player, loves the club and clearly has important qualities. There's simply no need to sell him at this point. Especially looking at our current state.

He can’t be any worse than Joselu or Gayle. Not a chance.

I don’t particularly rate him but he’s got to be a better option than those clowns.

If he was any use at this level he'd either be established in our match day squad or bought by a different PL club.  He's not good enough.  21 isn't "young" for a footballer these days

Yes, because every player is an instant bloomer. There has been no examples of players coming good. Of course 21 is young for a footballer these days.

It is getting silly with moving on players without giving them chances. Jamie Vardy was playing for Fleetwood Town at 25.

But that’s the thing, he will get his chance now. People complain about loaning other clubs players and Chelsea that keep theirs for years. If he is good enough he will make his way to the top.

No I'm not comparing any of these in terms of ability to Armstrong, just a list of some players from last season younger than him

Kyle Walker-Peters

Richarlison

Joe Gomez

Renato Sanches

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Gabriel Jesus

Dominic Solanke

Tammy Abraham

Marcus Rashford

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Tom Davies

Declan Rice

They're just the obvious names who start games, the list of 100 I've seen are all players in matchday squads. Armstrong can't get near to our matchday squad and our (main) strikers are awful.

To be fair given he was trained at our academy he's most likely to be shit. But yeah, given he's an England U21 international and the fact players like Harry Kane only really broke through for their clubs at 21, seems a bit early to be flogging him on.

He can be worse, and he must be worse (despite having age on his side). He's been a senior for over 4 years now and has done nothing in a Newcastle shirt nor has he particularly excelled in the Championship when out on loan there. Done well in League One but that's about it. I don't want to judge him too harshly given the small amount of times he's actually appeared for us, but personally I didn't see anything good about him. He's supposedly quick and has good feet, but so do a lot of lads in parks & on 5-a-side pitches, there's a lot more you need to become an effective player at a high level. Joselu & Gayle are obviously much better equipped despite both of their deficiencies.

Think about this too, he's been a senior for over 4 years, during which many different coaches have been at our club, none of which have fancied having him around the first team for more than the odd friendly or sub appearance and the rare start. There has to be a reason for that.

I'm not being purposefully critical of him, just reasonable.

You’re ignoring the fact that we won’t sign anyone like that. We won’t sign players and we won’t bring players through.

The only pertinent question about Armstrong is if Rafa approved the sale.

In a world with a decent owner, sure. In a world where Mike Ashley needs money from player sales to OK buying, not really. Still a nonsensical sale.

Can't believe Newcastle fans are arguing for basically giving away a player in these days anyway. So weird.

What's weird about not really minding that a player who has shown nothing to suggest he's up to this level is being moved on? Was it weird to you when Romain Amalfitano was moved on for next to nothing too? Because I don't see why this is any different just because it's Adam Armstrong.

Have you also considered that maybe he wants to move, too? It would be a smart decision if it was the case that he preferred to move and settle somewhere rather than returning to NUFC every year uncertain of where his future lies, similar in a way to Atsu at Chelsea before moving permanently to us.
