his performances for a good year or so now have been poor. He always looks a liability

That's not accurate at all. He absolutely has not been poor for a year and always looked a liability.

He's had bad games, and been shaky at times, but just this season he's come back in and looked great making everyone say "Tino's still not ready, Trippier offers so much more, we've missed him" etc.

It's barely reports though is it,  it's just based on a photo of him chatting to some girls and a user saying they'd heard he was being sick in the toilet and it's generated people coming up with wild conclusions about how unprofessional he is without knowing any other facts

I dont know that is what happened either, but this is a discussion forum, not a court of law, so the burden of proof is somewhat lower on what we can talk about. This feels like a fair talking point. Nobody is saying anything definitely happened but we're discussing reports, and from what I can see most if not all of us are caveating what we've said with "if he's done this". I think 90% of posters are being pretty reasonable and fair.

As for Howe giving a pass, if so that's likely an after the event pass. I can't for one moment see him OKing someone getting smashed in public before the event.

Speaking about an incident that you don't even know happened and transposing it on someone isn't really a discussion forum, it makes it closer to a gossip column and most people on here are better than that

Yeah let's not let facts get in the way of a good story!

The dramatic decline of this lad in a year is book worthy (no doubt our own stagnation mirrors this) Ruined his life and his career, and about to lose half of his wealth and access to his kids. If he was a decade younger you could forgive him, not at his age and seniority.

Disgraceful behaviour from our on pitch captain. Had hoped he'd be here forever and get into coaching. Now I can't wait to see the back of him. fucking waste of space. Clearly on the path to self destruction.

Needs sacking for going out the house looking like thst as well.

Fucking bullshit

Has it though? From what I can see, people are just saying that those actions - if anyone does them, whether or not they've happened here - are unprofessional, rather than saying Trippier had done these things and is unprofessional. I think most people are being fair, balanced, talking about hypotheticals and acknowledging that we only have rumours and discussing it accordingly.

I said "he looks a liability to me" I respect not everyone will agree but that's just my opinion. Even this season when he has played, I personally feel he looks slow and nervous to press. He also barely gets forward anymore which was the strongest part of his game.

When I say he's been poor I'm speaking in relation to his previous standards he had set. The first few months of last season he was still one of, if not the best RB in the world the way he was playing.

Something changed and when the injuries to the squad started mounting up and like others he was playing every few days with little rest, we started getting performances like the one away at spurs, the Everton away game, Chelsea in the cup when he came on etc.

He has struggled ever since the mid way point of last year and I include his England appearances, albeit I felt he was hung out to dry being asked to play left back.

Couple of steady appearances when he came back in early this season. However I feel the expectations and standards of his performances had dropped off so much by then that it was a little over hyped. I don't think anyone would say we were playing well in any early games despite winning.

And yes Tino struggled in early games as many others did but he's starting to come back into form thankfully.

 you're very naive if you don't think professional athletes don't have nights out and get drunk

I know they do. Just saying it isn't professional when you are an athlete. Not judging. I would never be able to stay away from alchohol completely either. Especially at that age, with that much money.

What we are saying is that the act would be unprofessional. If it happened. That's hadly a controversial statement, unless you're a biased die hard Trippier fan. Which I can understand if you are.

Being on a night out and allegedly being sick in a toilet. Do you think go footballers should never go on nights out?

I hope Sven Botman or Jamaal Lascelles haven't been on any nights out in 2024

What you're saying is unsubstantiated tittle tattle, undermining a Newcastle United player, get on RTG

Everything Howe has said about Trippier is how professional he is ever since he joined.

He gets photoed unknowingly on a night out talking to some girls after the squad had a great win against Arsenal and all of a sudden he's incredibly unprofessional

Did anyone say that Trippier is unprofessional in general? Professional people can act unprofessional in singular events.

Personally? I think professional sportsmen should not be getting drunk in public, no.

Go on a night out and stick to soft drinks, drive home sober

Have a few beers at home, with mates if you want, at an appropriate part of the season, away from the glare of publicity and where everyone has a camera phone

proper weird bootlicker attitudes on display here where people think everyone should be beholden to their employers and not be able to enjoy or express themselves outside of that.

the lad is obviously going through a tough time and this is how he is coping, we have all done it and maybe not in the position where the wife and kids have gone/been taken away and he is suffering.

just because he has went out on a saturday after the match and got legless doesnt mean he is a bad person, or athlete, or captain, or anything else. It means he is human and is just a fella living his life and dealing with things in his own way.

How about we show him a bit of love and a kind word and some support considering as someone said above he joined us in one of our darkest times when he didnt need to and was a driving force behind turning this club around and is quite possibly one of our most important signings of all time

A night out is not unprofessional if you stick to soft drinks and drive home.

Getting drunk to the point you're chucking up in public is unprofessional. Again not for a moment saying that's what happened here, but that's an unprofessional thing to do.

I mean if I went to my work Christmas do and was chucking up in the bogs, I'd have little complaint if my boss told me later that it was unprofessional. There's expected standards of behaviour at public events, and when you're a professional footballer then everywhere outside of your house is a public event. It's maybe not fair, but that just comes with the £100k/week pay cheque so you kinda have to suck that up.

I'm saying the same thing that I would say if a player of a different team had done the same. My opinion of an act doesn't change based on what team he plays for. That doesn't mean that I don't support the player. I've already said that I feel for him and that the situation he's in does change how we should see it. It also doesn't change my opinion on Trippier.

What I have a problem with is to go after someone who says that the act of getting piss drunk while recovering during a season is unprofessional. That's just stating the obvious, not controversial at all. That also doesn't mean that he did do it.

he wasnt at a public event or the works christmas party though and the money thing has nothing to do with it however i know what you mean in general as they are a public figure

so his boss couldnt say fuck all, just like your boss couldnt if you were on a night out wi your mates and doing the same thing

Why are you wording it like that? You should rather ask "is getting completely wasted during a season unprofessional?" Because that is the real discussion here. Just going out is way different.

I don't recall anyone playing the "unprofessional" card when we were absolutely walking the Championship under Hughton and half the squad was basically fuelled on booze, or in the Keegan days when they had a big Tuesday night full squad session every single week. And before anyone says it, yes I'm aware the game & social media have changed a lot since then.

He's got a lot going on in his personal life and if he needs a night out and a piss up to help take his mind off it, is it really such a big deal? Feel like this is way overblown.
