We’re not getting a fee for him if he wants out of England. If it’s to a prem club, could get say £2m, because someone down the bottom will see that being recouped by getting safety and a position or two up the table. No-one abroad paying a fee so we’d be best to let him go for £0.

Considering he wasn’t giving captaincy in summer, surprised we didn’t try and get him gone then? Or could it be Howe wanted him still, then as the months moved on, it’s turned out he’s not been recoverable.

If we are being honest the amount of mistakes he made that cost us goals probably cost us Europe

How many points were his ten assists worth?

Good question, but I was just lumping on the loss of European football to what we lost our in transfer fees and saved wages.

Hes been good for us anyone suggesting otherwise isn't serious but holding on too long (as we have Wilson, Miggy, etc) means the price is higher than people realise.

Probably less than you expect, sure a big chunk of them 10 assists came in that 8-0 win against Sheffield United . He has been poor for the best part of a year now.

He had a poor run of games in December last year, making a few high profile errors. This was at a time, too, when every other available player was also absolutely dead on their feet. Otherwise we've been a significantly better team whilst he's been in it.

His problem is off the field, not on it, and our quality has significantly reduced with him out of the side.

I respect your opinion your memory is likely better than mine.

From what I recall his form wasn't great throughout most of the second half of the season. I agree offensively he offers/offered a lot but defensively I think Tino is a much safer bet.

Would you hang on to him out of interest?

I don't think he was his best, but he certainly wasn't poor and remained a key player for us when he was playing.

I would be looking to let him leave in Jan, sadly.

He was very poor for me. Easy to glaze over because of him being competent in a set up that meant little defending for England in summer, but even in the final start for us last season he was bad.

Showed that he can’t come back in after games out and be the same guy, because he was so rusty and Man Utd took advantage. And when you are at that stage, it’s either an expensive coach or move on. People wanted the experience and as it turns out this season, that’s no where to be seen.

He’s been a mess in his personal life for ages, well over a year.

He tried to force his own move away in the summer by going to Dubai off his own back.

We should have sold him last Jan, we need to be far more ruthless with sales imo.

As I say, there was an internal fall out yesterday. I have no idea how big it was and I have no idea if they’ll resolve it.

But he definitely wasn’t ill tonight.

Man, this is pretty disgraceful from such an experienced player and previous captain. Must be absolutely killing the vibe around the place.

As one of the people that thought we should have accepted the Bayern January bid as both Tino and Krafth were fit and available at the time, this is extremely annoying.

It would have been good for him to get away too and link up with Kane who he's apparently close to, and who is a very stable guy.

We have mismanaged his situation pretty badly.

He was still making defensive errors while not contributing much offensively in the second half of last season.. Also, his assists had dried up already from October. In mid january he had 1 assist in 17 games.

Regardless of pure numbers in terms of when assists were and weren't coming, our attacking play from front to back has ran largely through Trippier since the day he walked in the door until this summer, the combinations down the right hand side with Bruno and the right sided forward were Plan A for how we got the ball up the field. His absence is the primary reason we're now struggling to score goals imo (not that I'm advocating for him back in the team, it seems he has made his bed and we have to deal with it).

I agree, I made the comment since some are using the "10 assists" argument like they were back in jan. So in a world where it's all about the assists, he also dried up on those months before january.

He'll end up in media one way or another, possibly as a pundit but more likely a podcast.

He does come across quite serious, the ones with a good sense of humour, or at least be able to tell stories seem to get on the best.

Could listen to Ally McCoist talk about Gazza all day long.

He was at a kids footy game last weekend as my mate had his son there. Big Joe was there too. Apparently he was being arsey and didn’t want his picture taken, which is fine I suppose, but when big Joe happily obliged my mate said to Trippier ‘if he is, you have to do it too!’ 😂

Definitely something off with him anyway.

His mindset might be:

I’ve been caught bringing a lass back to the family home for a scuttle (highly likely)

My missus is going to rinse me financially in a divorce (possibility)

My kids have moved away from the North East (fact)

I’m on the peeve too much (allegedly)

I’m in the twilight of my career (fact)

I’m unlikely to get a starting spot at NUFC (fact)

A stint in Saudi in a less demanding league, earning megabucks and no access to peeve (unless he lives outside of Saudi) might feel like the solution to his various problems

Real shame how it’s playing out, he’s arguably one of the most influential signings we’ve ever made and probably the best defender I’ve seen play for us in my 30ish years of support

Apologies if I've missed anything but was it proven he's been messing about with other women? I thought his marriage breakdown was just run of the mill stuff.

I remember there was all that BS with the Vermont Hotel and other players, but I wasn't aware there was other goings on with Trippier specifically?

There were pics of him in the marital bed taken by a lass he'd had a sleepover with

There were newspaper stories about a married England international who'd been caught on the home CCTV bringing a lass back for a sleepover

Whilst this was being reported, Trippier's wife was publicly cutting ties with him and moving herself and the kids to the North West. The family home was also put up for sale.

It all coincided with Trippier's form plummeting and it was also noticeable he had the facial appearance of a knackered broken man going through turmoil

If Vera was on the case she would look at the evidence and conclude he'd been caught with his pants down
