Andy84 Posted Saturday at 09:16 Share Posted Saturday at 09:16 He’s doing well in a team that plays completely to his strengths and he’s full of confidence. Still not good enough for us
Aiston Posted Saturday at 09:17 Share Posted Saturday at 09:17 He scored 5 goals for us, he was shit for us Carl Cort did better for us. He was terrible at doing his sole job for us, he didn't fit us at all. Don't know why fans have to have a meltdown when our former players have a good period, albeit this time it is probably down to us not acting when we knew Wilson was a permacrock
Slim Posted Saturday at 09:22 Share Posted Saturday at 09:22 If we sell Isak I wonder how much it will take to bring him back.

There's so much that goes into getting the best out of certain players. Most need a setup that benefits them. The exceptional players find a way no matter what, but those are rare. You watch how isolated Isak can be in our setup sometimes and you understand why Wood struggled. Isak has still been great for us anyway because of his greater ability and talent. The thing Wood really struggled with was holding the ball up in general play, or dropping into space and linking play when needed, which is required in our 4-3-3 because there's often no one playing off the striker. At forest they play someone in the number 10 position which takes a lot of that responsibility off him, as he can just stay high up the pitch. I think he also benefits from playing with two wide men that are more traditional in looking to beat their man and whip a ball into the box. He's showing he's got really good goal scoring instincts if the right conditions are put in place for him. I don't think he would have ever showed the same for us with the way our system works. Agreed. Not a good fit for us. But he tried hard, fairly mobile for a big lad, won some headers. He did a job for us. The move was best for all parties. He’s now playing in a team that plays to his strengths and playing the best football of his career. I never bought the ‘he’s shit’ tripe. He looked decent for us imo in a system not suited to him. And his record before and after proves he had something.
Paully Posted Saturday at 09:55 Share Posted Saturday at 09:55 Just seen Woods goals - Class 1st - like his goal for us vs Southampton! He did a job for us and was a focal point who helped us stay up - good luck to him - seems a good egg too!

Gawalls Posted Saturday at 13:48 Share Posted Saturday at 13:48 (edited) He scored 49 out of 144 aps for Burnley then came to us and struggled. Went to Forest where he’s on 22 out of 47. That indicates to me that when he was here the problem might not have been him. Oh and New Zealand he’s on 36 out of 78. I'm not saying he's suddenly oozing class, or that I'd want us to buy him back by any means (I absolutely wouldn't) - but I haven't exactly changed my tune in regards to thinking he's not a terrible player despite his struggles here. Be lying if I said it wasn't fairly satisfying seeing a few of the Always Miserable gang having to watch him bang them in, even if it's a purple patch

LiquidAK Posted Saturday at 14:09 Share Posted Saturday at 14:09 Yup, undeniably limited but he always put the effort in for the team. Can't hate that even if I'd of course have preferred Isak fit and starting ahead of him every day of the week.
Erikse Posted Saturday at 14:11 Share Posted Saturday at 14:11 (edited) I think his confidence was also a bit low aswell when he was here. He came here after a pretty rough patch at Burnley. Edited Saturday at 14:11 by Erikse
kingxlnc Posted Saturday at 14:20 Share Posted Saturday at 14:20 I’m glad he’s doing well for our football fwends Forest, after Shelvey and initially Wood they might have been hesitant taking our cast offs. But now we have credit in the bank and they are winning, with Anderson and Wood doing well and them casting off the Greek gk. All bodes well for them taking Almiron, Longstaff and Lascelles in return for Gibbs White, Hudson Odoi and Murillo in summer 2025
Lush Vlad Posted Saturday at 17:28 Share Posted Saturday at 17:28 I mean. Whether or not he was good before or after. He was terrible for the most part during his time here. Not just referencing his lack of goals, either. His hold up play was atrocious and his touch and ability to link play or even make simple passes was lacking time and again. He seems like a good bloke and never hid or shied away from working hard or anything. So I’m glad he is now doing well.

Aye, I think a lot are forgotten how bad he was for the majority of his time here. Didn't look like he could hack the pressure that came with playing for a bigger club at all, either. Think it was Sheffield in the cup where he blazed a sitter over the bar and you could tell he was pretty much done at that point. Was also costing us a fortune in terms of PSR. Our second most expensive player other than Isak in that regards, so there was no possible way we could afford to keep him on the books as a third choice. bobbydazzla Posted Saturday at 18:48 Share Posted Saturday at 18:48 I don’t think anyone was saying he was good in his time here, the consensus is that he didn’t click at NUFC But he was decent for his previous clubs, is doing well for his current club and barely dented the balance sheet in his short time here Sometimes signings just don’t work out, it doesn’t mean he’s a dogshit player who was ready for the knackers yard which is what a lot of Newcastle fans were claiming

But I have it in my head he wasn’t doing the business for Burnley. I remember quite a few of their fans actually seeming half-pleased he left. Maybe he was just low on confidence when he signed and it only got worse. Never saw any of the movement and finishes here like the ones he manages for Forest seemingly every week! Since 2015: 1 in 2 at Leeds 1 in 3 at Burnley 1 in 9 at NUFC 1 in 2 at Forest He might have been heading into a slump at Burnley that became a full slump in his time here, but we’re by far the team he’s performed worst for in the last decade
