Chris Wood (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Recommended Posts

I mean. Whether or not he was good before or after. He was terrible for the most part during his time here. Not just referencing his lack of goals, either. His hold up play was atrocious and his touch and ability to link play or even make simple passes was lacking time and again.

He seems like a good bloke and never hid or shied away from working hard or anything. So I’m glad he is now doing well.

He scored 5 goals for us, he was shit for us  Carl Cort did better for us.

He was terrible at doing his sole job for us, he didn't fit us at all.

Don't know why fans have to have a meltdown when our former players have a good period, albeit this time it is probably down to us not acting when we knew Wilson was a permacrock

I always thought Carl Cort was a decent player, certainly better than I thought he'd be.

Aye, I think a lot are forgotten how bad he was for the majority of his time here. Didn't look like he could hack the pressure that came with playing for a bigger club at all, either. Think it was Sheffield in the cup where he blazed a sitter over the bar and you could tell he was pretty much done at that point. Was also costing us a fortune in terms of PSR. Our second most expensive player other than Isak in that regards, so there was no possible way we could afford to keep him on the books as a third choice.

I don’t think anyone was saying he was good in his time here, the consensus is that he didn’t click at NUFC

But he was decent for his previous clubs, is doing well for his current club and barely dented the balance sheet in his short time here

Sometimes signings just don’t work out, it doesn’t mean he’s a dogshit player who was ready for the knackers yard which is what a lot of Newcastle fans were claiming

I can’t remember it properly. But I have it in my head he wasn’t doing the business for Burnley. I remember quite a few of their fans actually seeming half-pleased he left.

Maybe he was just low on confidence when he signed and it only got worse. Never saw any of the movement and finishes here like the ones he manages for Forest seemingly every week!

I thought us getting Wood and sacking Dyche sent Burnley down.

Not disagreeing. Merely commenting on their fans view on him at the time and him having a bit of a barren spell. It’s probably in here. Someone linked their forum, I think.

Since 2015:

1 in 2 at Leeds

1 in 3 at Burnley

1 in 9 at NUFC

1 in 2 at Forest

He might have been heading into a slump at Burnley that became a full slump in his time here, but we’re by far the team he’s performed worst for in the last decade

Just to clarify, I’m not rewriting Wood’s time here, he didn’t impress me and I was happy to see him moved on for what felt like a decent price

But I also think he’s a good example of how quick we are as a fanbase to get on a players back and destroy their confidence if they’re not in great form or our system doesn’t suit their strengths

Are we genuinely any better or worse when it comes to supporting/griefing players than other fans? Maybe we are a bit more impatient than some of the top clubs, as we’ve gone so long without winning anything.

Bit I see it mentioned a lot and it just seems a moan for moaning’s sake. I feel like he got plenty of support and played quite a lot when he first came in. He then became a bit-part player.

Sheff Weds was when it really turned and felt like that was it for him and the fans. I do still think he was scapegoated in that game, though.

I can’t comment on fans of other clubs, but in the stands at SJP people are chomping at the bit to slag off our own players as soon as the whistle blows

I’ve experienced it in all parts of the ground

Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn, Chris Wood being the favoured targets of recent years

And there’s plenty of it on here too, although I assume the players being slagged don’t read N-O. Or if they do, they go straight to the Best MILF’s thread

Cant even be arsed to argue as to whether Chris Wood looked any good for us like. I seen with my own eyes what he was like, backed up by his goal stats during and immediately before his time here, particularly in comparison to his previous seasons. Say you reckon the grass is green and someone will confidently assert that youre wrong on here.

Do what you like. I don’t think your opinion is a ‘grass is green’ one. I saw him introduced and the form of the team go from relegation form to top half form. There were other reasons, don’t get me wrong, but in my opinion there’s too too much, you’re either class or you’re shit.

If only we'd cashed in on Wilson and kept Wood. Hindsight...

He's a good fit at Forest, playing every week as the main man in a system that plays to his strengths, but he was hopeless for us and that wasn't ever changing. He could score 100 goals for Forest and it would still have been the right sale.

The issue is that we didn't/weren't able to do exactly the same with Wilson and Almiron at the right time.
