If it's £30m though, the big 6 will be sniffing because that's a helluva price for someone who'd still get 25-30 games even if not first choice. We need this done this summer.

Would he move to sit on the bench if his aim is to get into the England team?

Interesting one, hadn't considered that but it would make sense.

It's just Downie said there's conflicting info. Hope, and Graves are saving the bid is closer to £40 million whereas more national sources are saying £50 million. It definetly feels like a few games are being played for the benefit of the public.

Many here would take 8-12 in the league and a decent cup run.

Leicester would have European qualification as a good season.

What are we basing Leicester qualifying for Europe over us on? We've been a better side than them since Christmas. We're improving, they haven't signed anyone.

I get Leicester and West Ham are good clubs with really good managers, but some people put them on a ridiculous pedestal on here.

If he played for Arsenal,Chelsea,West Ham or Tottenham he’d be a regular in the England squad.

Yeah…but he’d be on the bench for all those teams (West Ham excepted)… Southgate wouldn’t pick him as a starter if that’s the case.

Total conjecture, but I wonder if reports of a higher bid are coming from the Leicester end to save face if they accept a lower offer? Luke, who probably got his info from John Percy and the transfer gimp originally broke the bid at the higher end. Our reporters are now pouring cold water on that.

smells like an undisclosed fee

Not to mention Rogers is a 3 season wonder and always fizzles out quickly after his initial impact, he won't be there next season.

Stats back it up - Mount has a higher tackle % against the dribble, higher pressure success rate and nearly twice as many pressures in the attacking third.

Obviously part of this is how the teams are set up and there's nothing to say Maddison couldn't press more but that's what the numbers say.

Aye - this is the prevailing thought in the game and the only plausible football reason JM isn't in the England squad.

That's my impression of JM as a player. Fantastic talent and ability. A bit of a luxury out of possession. Hence not the best to have as RCM or RF (who has to track fullbacks). Mount maybe not as eye-catching on the ball but perhaps more efficient / better movement in the box and a presser off the ball a proper gegenpresser of a attacking midfielder / forward.

If we've went back with only 40 million we are taking the piss and wasting everyone's time. Can't see this happening personally.

Whatever the second bid was, it's telling it took so long to be rejected. Went in what, late morning yesterday. Only started hearing it was going to be rejected late last night/this morning. Clearly it prompted discussions somewhere. Whether that's among the Leicester side, between Leicester and Maddison, or both who knows.

2022: 8th

2021: 5th

2020: 5th

If they finish somewhere in-between = Europe.

First choice CB's injured for most of the season. As did a first choice fullback. Vardy scored loads but missed 13 league games. If they all stay fit or at least considerably more fit and maintain form and don't sell key players. You would expect a top 7 finish. Maddison, Vardy & Barnes is as good as it gets outside the top 6 alone. Fofana, Evans, Tielemans. It's a good team.

As it stands they have Ayoze Perez as dead wood. We'll be starting Miguel Almiron at the weekend. Their squad is a level above ours.

We are in an upward trajectory though. And Leicester might lose one of their best players to us. Seemingly their cycle is over and they need a rebuild.

He'd still get a lot of games though plus higher wages if the fee is less. The likes of Liverpool would even be a good fit for him then. Doubt they'd pay £50-60m for him to play the role at the club they'd want him to but £30m in a years time and I think they'll all be in there. He's the sort of player who could easily work his way in as a first choice too.

I can't totally blame other clubs baulking at low starting bids when we paid so much for Chris Wood. Didn't set an ideal precedent.

Think they're savvy enough to realise it was out of desperation and a release clause, mind. We're not desperate anymore.

They've recent history of doing so with this squad.

But they have largely stagnated, while others around them have improved. Don't get me wrong, I think they will be back in top half this season with no European football to deal with, but I think the days of them pushing for top 4 are done.

At £30m next season, a top 6 club would pay him good money to be a squad player.

This is our chance. But we'll have to pay market rate.

I think the club realise this too and we'll just do it in the end mind.
