Can’t say I’m going to lose much sleep over this one. Questionable temperament to start with and also showing he’d be happy to sit on the bench on inflated wages, move on. 
 

We just need to accept that nobody in the premier league wants to do business with us, they are clearly using us to drive up prices. We need to take some risks and widen our net.

I guess it’s significantly easier to get players that would improve us when we were sitting 19th in the league or had just finished 11th, than it is when we’ve secured CL football 2 years out of the last 3

Can't have a go at the club for not overpaying. Overpay for Joao Pedro would then mean that we have less money, or no money, for the other important positions in the side. 

 

On top of that it won't be as simple as if we agreed a fee weeks ago we would have got him. Chelsea would have been kept informed on any deal and would have probably just come in earlier and we would have been in this exact same boat but a few weeks earlier. 

 

As others have mentioned, this is PSR, and with PSR as it is we will probably never be able to fully compete and establish at the top on a consistent basis. Or at the very least we have to do everything perfectly to do so. It is a shame because it sucks the joy out of football a bit.

When you say long been abandoned, you mean for the two seasons we've not been allowed to spend money? 

 

The last time we spent money, we signed Tonali, who was a young foreign star and he wasn't even cheap either.

We really need to have an extensive list of back up targets for just this reason. It may well be that we are working on these behind the scenes and no one has got wind of it yet, just after what happened with Guehi last season, and Eddie's own quotes about having a small pool of players to choose from, fans are understandably nervous.

Assuming our number 1 targets are the ideal ratio of price/talent/age/etc, maybe our second target is more talented but carries more risk due to price, playing in Europe etc

How can we expect to compete with them on the pitch if we're not going to compete in the transfer market, though? It's a nightmare to do, cos it isn't a level playing field, but we've got to do it. 

 

On the second bit, if the rumours about Khusanov are to believed, even when we cast the net further, you've still got the PSR-avoiders waiting to swipe.

If Pedro wants to be tossed onto the scrapheap of decent/kinda good wingers that Chelsea horde instead of playing a key role in a team managed by one of the very best in the business of unlocking a players potential then fill your boots kid.

 

Yeah, Chelsea will pay him more than us for his next deal, but probably not by a massive amount and who's to say that if becomes a hero here he won't get a bumper wage increase or a move to an even bigger club?

 

All that aside, he'll never be loved by them, he's just another fart in the wind to them. If he played well for half a season Wor Flags would probably have made a big surfer for him!

 

I know it sounds salty in a 'never liked her anyway' kind way but it's annoying that Chelsea just copy our homework and spend with impunity. Personally, I'd rather we bought guys like Pedro BEFORE they start going for ridiculous fees. I want us to be more smart and creative in our scouting.
