A World Cup without USA will be weird.

I am not sure that I'm going to miss a nation who calls Football "Soccer" ;-)

Customary It-was-actually-us-that-called-it-soccer.

Its a British terminology not an American one..They just use it because to not confuse the natives with their already named football game

Association soccer has and was always a term used in Britain first...Hell its even called Gillette Soccer Saturday

Christ. Lot of f***ing assholes in here this morning. f*** you, too.

Jozy man

Seriously though, says more about the management than anything else. USA should be in every world cup finals on paper but maybe this will be a wake-up call.

A country of that size and with the amount of money and infrastructure going into the game, couple that with the conference they are in and the nations they are competing against both themselves and Mexico should never fail to qualify

Ive said it for ages if football ever ever wants to take off her in the US then they need to do away with this closed shop 2 conference shit/salary cap etc and adopt the tiered pyramid system that all other football countries adopt

You've gotten off extremely lightly considering the shit posting that goes on when you all hear that an Englishman once made a small mistake.

The problem with England is that everyone here hates them now, nevermind non-English people. Our press were sneering at them after they qualified unbeaten, and so was I to be fair, they're still shit. Even slagging them off isn't fun anymore.

I was shocked when I saw this today, I didn't think it was possible to fail in that region, I thought it was set up to be easy for the USA. Hopefully it doesn't damage MLS which seems to be gaining popularity.

I think this is going to hurt the nation (the popularity of the sport, sadly) and thank fuck that Gulati's election is in February and hopefully he walks before then or is sacked (somehow). The whole system needs fixing, far too much money being pumped into the game here in the US and not enough of it is doing anything to develop players, coaches, and the sport in general. It's really upsetting to me because I've been highly critical of all of this for quite some time, I loved Klinsy despite my anger at the way we played and results because he had the balls to challenge the system currently in place and had a long-term vision (even though it had its flaws).

Anyway, I hope this changes everything and we sit down and really make wholesale changes, because a nation this large with this much money and resources shouldn't be struggling to get into the World Cup, nor should it be missing olympics, or it's better players be paid more to "help the local game" when they sacrifice their own careers and development by leaving European leagues (see: Bradley).
