Alexander Isak: has a chance to play against Everton (Howe)

I’m with you but doubt his agent would agree to a release clause so high. Maybe something like 150m would okayish for both parties.

It would have to represent a deal that improves our situation by either keeping him at the club for longer and/or not capping our potential future transfer fee below his current market value in return for bringing his wages in line with others of his play level. If the best Isak and his agent could offer was to cap his release clause at his current asking price and doubling his wages I would expect our club to just kick the can forward a year.

I agree with you in principle, I just don't think that part in bold is possible. If we're saying £120m is below his market value then he's amongst the top handful of players in the world. How much is Haaland on?

Haaland is on insane money, but he's more proven and over a longer period of time than Isak is. I would assume to tempt Isak into a contract extension we'd have to offer well in excess of 200k/week for his services. I don't see why we would do that (adding 4-5 million per year to our outgoings) if it does not then allow us to rinse clubs who may want to pry him away from us in the future. He's on a 3 year deal and we can ask whatever we want as it stands, so we shouldn't be in a hurry to deteriorate our bargaining position.

I would loath to lose Isak and (as I've said before) I think he's the least replaceable of our "purples" but should we lose him in the next two years it should be for a fee that then allows us to build from that and become stronger overall.

I see some people say they'd happily run down his contract if he wouldn't want to extend. I disagree with that position. As a club and with PSR in mind that would set us back massively. We need to either build around him for the next 5+ years or sell for a king's ransom at the optimum time (probably after next season if we cannot keep him).

I think the issue (just as I see it) is that ultimately he/his agent hold all the cards.

Obviously our confidence of keeping him this summer is that he's got three years to run. But what about next summer if he doesn't extend? Are we still in a position where we can essentially price him out of the market?

If I was his agent I'd be thinking I want very good terms this summer or we'll talk next summer. Back Isak to keep producing at his current rate and see how confident the club is in keeping him with two years left on his deal rather than three.

A little less so, hence why that would probably be the time to sell and re-invest if he's not willing to commit to our project longer term.

What would be the point of that for us? We’d have to pay him higher wages and lose him for less than he’s worth in a year’s time. Could see it with an extension and say a 200-250m release clause.

Probably to stop him leaving in the Summer. Both Liverpool and Arsenal are after a number 9 which might not be the case next year.  So keeping him here next season is key. Which hopefully higher wage and potentially CL will do.

He’s contractually obliged to stay with us, and he seems happy here, so I don’t see that risk of him leaving against our wishes and not on our terms this summer

If a player wants to leave then they tend to get their wish these days. Contract just gives us a stronger position with regards fee. He'll know he might not get the chance again to join Arsenal or Liverpool as come next year you'd assume the Striker positions will have been filled. So for me keeping him here next season is key - and a new contract would go some way to help.

For a fee the size of what it would take, a deal would take months to make. It's certainly not going happen over one summer window.

Besides which, it's entirely up to us to explain the terms to Isak. I've no issue with Isak wanting to reach the very top of world football, but if that's the case, he's not going to find that at Arsenal or Liverpool.

"Alex we respect your ambition and if Real, Barca, Bayern or PSG put the correct bid in for you NEXT summer, we will reluctantly let you leave. We won't sanction any domestic sale."

It's that simple. Again, I've said before, he can go for 20m cheaper if he goes abroad. It's absolutely imperative we don't hand him to a rival.

The wide eyed desperation of the press and opposition fans to break up our cup winning side is palpable. Us getting into the champions league and strengthening again would sicken them.

lets make sure it happens.

It’s only going to get worse. People are naive if they think there’s no chance he goes this summer though. I think we’ll get CL though and he’ll sign a new contract.

Don't mind the speculation. If the so called big clubs are drooling over our players it's because they're fucking hellish.

I was idly thinking that a player like Isak will be wanting more trophies, but also that they'd not feel quite the same at a club like PSG, say, where trophies are expected. Maybe that's just with my Newcastle head on, but I'm not sure that for a lot of these players, including him, that they'll experience such an outpouring of joy as finally, finally winning something for us.

The pundits and media are doing their best to push the narrative of Isak leaving Newcastle.

I think it's quite funny that there's alot of Arsenal talk, Why on earth would he want to join Arsenal? Serial bottle jobs.

I think he's a class act, I'd have him at City all day, He would walk into most teams around Europe. He could well sign a new contract at Newcastle with a buy out clause in the contact.

I hope he stays at Newcastle, Howe is building a really good side and it's important to keep the spine of the team intact. Hopefully with City winning court cases against the corrupt league it will allow extra finances for ourselves and Newcastle to spend money.

Unfortunately the Premier League want the so called "Big Boys" at the top table, City's owners and Newcastles owners are very powerful and will turn the tide in the Premier League.
