Letting our best players go to another team in the same league just doesn’t feel right; and from an optics standpoint, it looks like we’re giving up ground.

It’s not a move we should even be considering imo.

Keith summed it up perfectly. Liverpool no1 target was Isak no.2 Ekitike. We bid for Ekitike, Liverpool enquired if that meant Isak is available (hence Romano etc tweets) we said no. Then Liverpool asked to be kept informed about Ekitike.

Now that Liverpool are in play, Ekitike likely goes to Liverpool.

Just making a generic point, but its a bit mental that we're getting offers of £130m for one of our players, and we're all rightfully going "Fuck off he's worth more then that" just goes to show how far we've come from the dark days of Ashley

Liverpool are acting like they're the only show in town. Wait a season then sell next summer if required. This is the classic Ferguson play of buying from other clubs on the rise strengthening your own position and weakening theirs. Did it to Leeds with Ferdinand and Spurs with Carrick and Berbatov and us with Cole and Villa with Yorke.

If we do sell it's cementing Liverpool's position with leading players even with Salah aging and going in a year. Other clubs will be in for Isak next summer and if not, even if he has a bad season what will his value recede to ? 90-100 million ? If it's this summer it must be in excess of £150 million and must done quickly with other players coming in handy.

Why would he want to leave to go to Liverpool? He is happy here he's loved here, numerous players of late have turned down Liverpools advances I'm not worried at all as far as I'm concerned there's no story there.

Because he's one of the best strikers in the world and will compete for league titles and European cups at Liverpool, which he's unlikely to do here. Completely mad to think he wouldn't be interested.

And if we ever make it to that position, I hope we do likewise :)

Unfortunately, if the player wants the move, and he probably will do, there's only so much we can do.

Can’t see why he would want to leave tbh, nothing to say we can’t challenge Liverpool next season, they got a lot of new players to bed in and have a reliance on an ageing Salah. Surely Isak is enthused about linking up with Elanga etc. He’ll also be offered a pay rise and perhaps a promise that we won’t stand in his way next season if a continental giant approaches him. There’s so much we can do here - Liverpool isn’t a massive upgrade at all in my opinion.

A fairly unremarkable but well drilled Liverpool team won the league last season. There’s nothing to say they will do it again any time soon. A couple of seasons ago we finished above them. Isak needs to know we have the ambition to be above them every season.

There's no guarantee liverpool win another league anytime soon. With city and Chelsea arsenal all strengthening and if we got ekitike what's to say we wouldn't be in with a chance of a league push.

It's actually really simple. Liverpool are saying sell us Isak or they'll go in for Ekitike. Who in comparison is currently a worse player and unproven in this league. We've got to be strong here and convince both their future is here.

I don't think that we are a million miles away from competing for league titles.

I actually think Ekitike alongside Isak, and we have about the same chance as Liverpool do.

Liverpool were nothing special last season, nothing for us to fear. Heck we beat them in one of their biggest days last season, and were robbed of beating them at home. We outplayed them twice in 3 games and have went toe to toe with them in recent seasons.

A little bit of squad depth and we are right in there, maybe not a title favourite, but within the talk.

Liverpool are very much favourites to win it again, especially if they get one of Ekitike or Isak.

Are we considering it?

Certainly hope not. Even if it gets to 150m plus. There’s a precedent to be set. They’ve been trying to poach our best players for a few years now; we need to show that they can’t big league us into selling them our top talent. The goal is to compete with them not be their feeder club.

We’ve knocked them back before and should continue to do so until they finally acknowledge that we won’t sell them our best players. Doubt they’d try the same shit with Saka off Arsenal.

Honestly man I’d LOVE to sign Ekitike, keep Isak and smash the shit out of them at SJP in August.  This is a huge opportunity to send a huge message this transfer window and for the first time show the power we can have. Really hope we go for it and fuck them all

Exactly, tell them to fuck off and that we'll never sell them Isak or any other player. This is exactly with PSR is in place and without it, we'd be buying anyone we want.
