If he'd just come out and said we can't give him what he wants, he wants to sign for a club who are currently more likely to win major honours and pay more, there's not much we could have said against it. I don't like the way he's gone about it but it gives hope that he'll still be ours that he hasn't came in with the transfer request etc.

Exactly, the point is that we are bigger than any player and we have an absolutely top manager looking after a really good team. Lots of room for improvement but it’s great to hear from Eddie.

I'd probably rather just see him gone if it meant we got two new strikers and other positions strengthened. The issue is the proven inability to do that this summer.

I know - I would assume the progression of their league is ahead of any ambition they have for Newcastle.  As Isak going will set us back years.

The irrational side of me (cut nose off to spite face) thinks we should just tell Liverpool to fuck clean off, no matter what bid comes in and tell them to wait until next summer, and give a fuck if Isak plays a single minute of the season

I think Liverpool shot their bolt with Ekitike. They don’t have the money to pay £150m + so will be hanging around and getting their clients like Romano/Jacobs/Ornstein to keep pumping out the ‘Isak only wants Liverpool’ tweets until the price comes down. I hope PIF have some resolve.

There's perhaps something true that if he did go it would loosen up the logjam of us needing to penny pinch on every single signing and we'd then be able to act a little bit more loosely on asking prices to get what we need.

 

But realistically if he did go we'd then need to get over the line at the bare minimum 2 new strikers, a RCB and probably a CM/attacking midfielder in a month. It just seems completely unfeasible at the way we work.

100% - tell Alex we will sell him to anyone 'other' than Liverpool.  They have took Ekitike and now they want to take Alex as well?  Howay.  It's not like we are able to spend the money either , we are already struggling to get players as is.

I think Isak would reintegrate for this season if we hold firm on not selling him this summer. 

 

The only question that counts for me is whether Howe believes this is in the best interest of the morale of the squad. Everyone will know next summer he is going to be on his way.
