Looking back you have to think he was badly advised when he signed. His agent should have understood his potential and had a realistic release clause. Even a perceived high release clause at the time of say 85 million would look very shrewd now. Our side did well to resist one and should receive substantial credit for this. Moveforward 18 months and I suppose it’s not a massive jump to suggest Isak’s team realised their error and tried to insert one. Difficult for the club to accept at that stage……. Others had scouted him (including Liverpool) but his second season at Sociedad he'd switched position a little and had an iffy goal tally despite a 6th placed finish for the club (10 across all competitions if memory serves). Still massive credit to the decision makers at the time to get such a player whose stock has risen so much, and it appears they have managed to do so without a release clause.
