No, we can’t.  He’s already about 10% of our amortised transfer costs for the season.  We can’t sign two centre forwards and have him twiddling his thumbs, however satisfying it is.  If he stays he has to play.

He will play, you really think he will down tools in a World Cup year and for a whole season in the champions league, with every one talking about it

Just to people who trust everything Ornstein says, about Isak saying long before that he is leaving etc.

So he said in June that Isak is not going nowhere because we got to UCL

I'd believe it to be true. Would also explain why this blew up after the Ekitike situation as in Isak's mind it was likely a suitable replacement for him.

You really think he doesn’t care about going to the World Cup? Talk about deluded

Yes, I don’t think he’ll give a shite.  He’s a mercenary - I don’t think he deals in sentiment.

TBF, I struggle to give a shite about the WC.

If he's money hungry, than starring in a World Cup held in North America will be very high on his agenda

What a sad, bizarre saga this has been. Makes me appreciate the likes of Bruno, Big Joe, BDB all the more.

I think the club have to call his bluff, and will. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him pulling on the shirt again in a month’s time.

Would you want him to? From an outsider looking in, he seems to have made his stance clear and he's gone about it completely the wrong way. Its irreparable damage. Everything that Howe seems to stand for and has built in terms of togetherness, work rate etc, shouldn't be undone because of this nugget.

He's undoubtedly world class, arguably irreplaceable, but 130/140M is incredible money, transformable for the rest of the squad.

He could get injured in the first week of the season and be out for months. I would honestly cash in at this stage, provided Liverpool offer around 130 which they probably will.

So he's finally played his last card, publically refusing to play for us again, he's now got nothing left

Club just needs to carry on trying to add to the squad, I don't even want us to acknowledge the cunt, just get more players in (Wissa in the next 24 hours would be handy like) and ignore him and his agent completely. Let him continue to train by himself, let the fans give him shit anywhere he goes, let other neutral fans know how much of an unprofessional cunt he is, delete one of his prime seasons from his career, allow his current teammates to lose all respect for him and most importantly of all - stick another 10% onto his price. Raise the bar and see what happens. He's forced the issue, we just need to hold firm and call his bluff

True, but there’s almost zero chance of him doing much at the WC.  Top players in mediocre teams rarely leave a mark.

He’s coming in to Pierre Van Hoojdonk territory now.

I get he wants more money, who doesn't, but I just can't fathom why he's so desperate leave us to the point where his best option was to go full scorched earth against us to force through a move to fucking Liverpool who couldn't and wouldn't pay his asking price from the off.

Would it really have killed him to sign a bumper deal making him the highest paid player at the club (which all of us thought should've been our #1 priority this summer) and playing here for one more season in the CL and having another run at the top 4, leaving us with his legacy intact once a European giant comes in for him? Is Newcartle really such a footballing backwater that the mere thought of being trapped here on a paltry 120k a week sends shivers down his serpentine spine?

The most deplorable aspect is that he's been lurking in the shadows getting his bum agent to brief the usual cartel whores against us. His agent, Liverpool and the twitter shills have all contributed to this mess, but make no mistake, this is 100% the fault of the player. Over the weeks there's been ample opportunity for him to fix this mess somewhat, Eddie himself has offered an olive branch in he press a few times but he's well and truly crossed the Rubicon with that Ornstein briefing.

The club has done as well as they possibly could have with this situation, they have been defiant and they need to dig their heels in even more so now, we absolutely can not do any deal with Liverpool now, even if they offer the asking price, this is now a matter of a principle, Isak's behaviour must not result in him getting what he wants. He's not backing down, he's doubling down, we must do the same, it's encouraging to see that the rest of the football community is starting to turn on Isak and call him out on being a snakey cunt, he represents all that is wrong with player power.

I've never felt so angry towards one of our own players and this is a club that once employed Nile Ranger! Let this bum fuck off home to Sweden or Sociedad or wherever for the season, I fucking hate him

I'd never heard of this guy before, but his situation at Forest is basically exactly how this has played out

Quote

Van Hooijdonk asked for a transfer. The club's new owners refused. Van Hooijdonk announced that he had been told previously that he could leave the club at the end of the 1997–98 season if he so wished, that he felt betrayed by the club's owners who had failed to deliver on their promises to him regarding the strengthening of the team, and that he felt he could no longer play for his employers. Forest, desperate for a striker, refused to allow him to be transfer-listed again, so van Hooijdonk announced his intention to strike. He kept fit by training with his former club NAC Breda.[citation needed]

Because of his behaviour, Van Hooijdonk received criticism both from fans and from his teammates, not least from team-mate Steve Stone and manager Dave Bassett. The club refused to listen to offers for him, as they needed a top striker and the stand-off lasted until early November when van Hooijdonk, realising that he had no choice, agreed to return and played in a game against Wimbledon.[

Don’t shoot the messenger

Thanks for that, sent me down the rabbit hole of Twitter that I have been trying to avoid with their fans still banging the drum that Isak can buy out his contract in two weeks and leave for about £20m
