It’s inevitable though with the PSR shite.

Then we have to fight that crap or at least hope City fight it further and we support them. Worse case take a points deduction as we can’t replace him.

He was a menace all night. Carragher was saying the other day how no striker really troubles Van Dijk. I didn’t want to jinx it. But I thought at the time, Isak often gives him issues.

Goal at Anfield on debut. Unlucky with an ‘offside’ to stop another.
Got him sent off in the home game.
Scored there last season (not checked if VVD was playing, TBF)

Regularly turned him inside out tonight and Was giving him problems all game.

He didn’t seem to gas for a change and the hip seemed fine. Just hope he can go on a run of games now where he isn’t playing crocked all the while.

Infinitely more dangerous when his forward runs into space are spotted and he is threaded through like Bruno did on the goal.

Could see him reaching another level with more of that kind of service through the middle.

Going to be very interesting to see how things go with that relationship developing further the rest of the season now.

Having someone on the right who can make quality runs behind (and then both sides being clinical) will take Isak to another level.

Plays so many good balls through, where it’s not finished so he doesn’t get the assists in his stats to reflect his contribution. Salah flicks one through, they smash it in.

Feels they've been asking him to come deeper & get into the game more recently, which suits him. The 433 we play with very wide wingers tends to leave him very isolated, which doesn't suit him well IMO. He's not a Drogba type, he's not that good at the big lone target man role and he can go a bit cold when he's not touching the ball regularly.

He's rapid, so yeah you want him on the last shoulder getting in behind, but he's also a fantastic passer and good dribbler so you want him dropping deep or wide to get on the ball. Which means we need a system where there'll be someone there to take his place up front when he moves away.

For me that's why I think we looked a bit better when Willock came back into the team - he's our one CM who really looks to make runs and get forward to support the striker.

Given that in Bruno and Tonali we have two potentially very good deeper CMs, and a CF who likes to move around and would benefit from an advanced midfielder to play with him, a 4231 system, at least in passy passy situations feels like it would suit our players far more.

Just need a really classy, technical No 10 (and some flexibility from Eddie).

Chances on him signing a big new contract in July, and presented as the new Number 9? Must be the focus upstairs using that as a selling point and him to be the spearhead for our future success.

Best game for us? I think so.

Really promising he looked a threat for the full 90 as his race is normally run by about 70 and he ends up being a bit of passenger for the last 20 when there’s no Wilson to replace him.

Is it just me or does he seem to always score at the Leazes end?! Can barely recall the knee slide at the Gallowgate?! Only two off top of my head I can recall are the delightful lob v Villa last season and last minute winner v Fulham the season before!

Loves playing uphill does the Ice Man.  Why would he want it to be easy?  :)

Honestly believe we will sell him in the summer for £120m and that will be the game changer for the club and open up the doors for us to push on. Allowing us the opportunity to invest £600m in the squad.

Pains me to say it but he's too good and should be at a top top club playing at the highest standard.

Where will we finish in the league if we lose Isak and invest the money?

The lad isn’t staying if we’re not challenging tbf.  And I wouldn’t blame him.

Maybe but this is a different question to whether we should sell him.

PS we will be challenging.

Whilst scored a brilliant goal, thought he still  looked a bit lethargic, time will tell over the coming games, still expect someone to come for him in January though to test our resolve especially if Europe out of the window.

How could Europe be out of the window by January?

Because one swallow don't make a summer, if couldn't do it against poor opposition and only pick up points against the cartel, then that may well be the deciding factor.

Probably yeah. Key thing for me was that he managed to get himself more involved in the build up. Great passes to play through Hall and Murphy most notably, but rarely seen him have the ball as much in general as he had yesterday.

this is exactly it. it's a simple game, get your best player on the ball as much as possible, see what happens.

that said, he was working noticeably harder than usual last night. dropping in, finding space, he seemed bang up for it.
