Genuinely have no idea how we'd go about replacing him and in theory he's hitting his peak seasons right now. The fee would have to be ridiculous to even contemplate selling him but the reality is that if he wants a move away to Madrid, PSG or Barca then you'd have to let him go and bend the buying club over completely

Selling would be madness. He's irreplaceable, nobody can name a player that we can realistically attract who is close to the same level as him, and if we could we cant pay the wages they want anyway.

I agree he is the best striker but if we sell him for 150M and buy Groykes and Mbuemo I feel we will be a better team

I just can’t see a situation where we sell him this summer going into the CL and I’m guessing Howe and PIF are adamant he goes nowhere for now.

 

It’s far more likely we sell him next summer to a club on the continent with two years left on his contract. I actually expect him to go next summer to be fair.

I still expect him to sign a new contract, 5 year deal to 2030. If he’s still banging in goals, the move will be there in 2028 if he wants to play for one of the elite before he’s finished, as he’ll be 28 going on 29, and at his physical peak.

 

If we’ve moved forward and are close to Prem and gone deep in UCL couple of times, it may be he wants to stay and chase down Shearer record.

I don’t see that at all personally , both Bruno and tonali talk of their love for this club and this is something he never does. I also believe this is the longest he’s been at a club, he has no help and was absolutely knackered end of last season down to the sheer amount of minutes he put in. I seen an interview where Shearer asked him about breaking his record with Newcastle and isak gave the same non commital answer. When he has two years left and not signed a new contract I believe we’ll have to sell him.

Gyokeres is older and not nearly as good as Isak.

Selling isak is utter madness.  It sends the wrong message to current players and also any we are trying to bring in. 

 

Yes, it gives us a short term boost to PSR but will almost certainly leave us weaker at CF, the key position on the pitch. 

 

Qualifying for CL for the next 3 seasons means we can name our price for sponsorship deals etc… and probably triple 🤷🏻‍♂️ our commercial income in that time.  
Solving our PSR issues for ever 😂

 

To do that we need Isak.

Would be insanity to sell him. Having said that, If we are to have any chance of keeping him beyond this coming season we have to invest heavily. Get quality and numbers in and strengthen the team and squad properly. Fail to do that and he won’t be here for long. Couldn’t blame him either if so. No matter when/how late we get the players in this window, there can be no fucking about and time wasting that results in us not getting enough through the door.

He won’t be signing a new contract until the window has closed, at the very earliest. If he signs a new contract it will have a release clause much much lower than we’d want for him. Think it might be a while before he signs a new one, if he does. Don’t see us agreeing to a too low clause.

I do think he'll start to look elsewhere if we don't invest in the club this Summer.  He'll want to be in a team which is challenging for things so the next few weeks are vital in us keeping our best players.

Agree with this. But he's also really intelligent. Not saying any of our players aren't, but Bruno and even Tonali are governed by passion when they speak whereas Isak isn't the Iceman just in front of goal, he's incredibly measured and thoughtful when speaking too so even if he did love the club and want to stay forever, he's never going to say as much because that takes away bargaining power when it comes to contract renewals etc. Which leads me to the below...

Absolutely nothing in there at all. It's a waste of words. He's never going to say he hates it here and wants to leave, and is desperate to go to Liverpool or Madrid or wherever, no player will ever say that. But on the flip side he's also not said explicitly "I love it here and want to stay". His words are VERY carefully chosen - "It's been written how much I love the city and club" is very different to "I really love the city and club". He hasn't said "I want to stay" or "I want to sign a new contract", he's just said "I feel incredibly comfortable" and "The only focus I have is on playing". 

 

He's ice cold. There's very little emotion there. Every word is picked with care and all he's actually said is that he's not agitating to leave, which tells us nothing because no player would tell the press that anyway even if he had his bags packed behind closed doors.

 

That said I absolutely love seeing him play for us and hope he stays for many years to come. But it's new contract this year or, sadly, he'll have to be sold next summer IMO.

I think we need to show him, and our other top players, that we're going to be ambitious. A couple of top quality signings, particularly a striker to lessen the load on him, might be enough to persuade him that his future is at Newcastle. At least for another couple of seasons. I'd take that right now in a heartbeat.

Yeah, that and a bit more cash will do it.

 

We can't say he's worth north of £100m and then pay him like he's only worth £60m.
