We never beat Liverpool so definitely don't want them in this or any other final. That being said they will over turn it at Anfield anyway.

Time to break that this year

We are knocking on the door. When we blew the league I just thought we will win it next season, to be fair I was only 13. When I went to Wembley in 98 I wasn’t all that gutted as first time at a final, thought the chances would come round again quickly and it did, was more gutted year after due to opposition and probably worse performance. By the time of the Chelsea and Man U semis I was already soured, and 23 was also hideous. But if I look objectively we surely are going to win one soon and I’d wager being there for that would eclipse something bigger down the road.

That Chelsea semi was one of the worst feelings i've ever had following the Toon. Dominated them and then that cunt Poyet...ugh. We'd have beaten Villa in the final that year i'm sure of it, they were nowt back then

Think everyone would prefer Spurs. Got to just think of ourselves, get through the second leg then I trust whomever we play our squad will be more than motivated. Especially those that lost last time that are still here.

If we can make a signing or two to enhance the team combined with our new found groove in midfield, defence and upfront, I think we have every chance regardless of who we face.

Not underestimating the job still to do in the 2nd leg. But I totally get the thoughts regards Liverpool or Spurs as opponents.

What I would say is this set of players have beaten spurs 3 out of the last 4 times. That has to inject belief and confidence and help improve our chances on the day. Whereas on the flip side, this Howe team have never beaten Liverpool, although we're inching closer each time.

Would be interesting but if we both reach the final, do we play Liverpool again in the league before it? Not sure if that would be good or bad.

In 1974 before the FA Cup Final Newcastle United and Liverpool had won just about the same amount of trophies, can you believe that !

Yeah, it’s incredible, isn’t it?  When we played Arsenal in the 1998 final we’d also played in the same number of finals as them.  Now they’ve been in 21 to our 13 …

I never knew that. WOW !

We just have to win a trophy soon....at least before I snuff it [emoji38]

I would absolutely and obviously much rather play Spurs were we to manage to get through. We are more likely to win a trophy in that eventuality. Thinking in advance about the less embarrassing outcome if we lose is proper muggle chat.

It’s not embarrassment.  It’s pain.

I’ll enjoy the final against Liverpool no matter what. Against Spurs I’ll believe we will win, so losing would hurt so much more. If there’s one ‘top’ team we should beat its spurs. Which is why it would hurt so much to lose to them.

Yous know exactly what we mean though. If we go through they're the better team for us to play absolutely no doubt, but just imagine if they somehow weren't Spursy and ended their trophy drought to the one club more allergic to them than them. It doesn't bear thinking about.

Exactly.  We might actually be ultimate Spurs - I don’t want to see it.

I’m amused at NUFC supporters juggling in their head who they want in the final due to the disappointments of the past while seeming blissfully unaware that we still have to actually finish the job against a really good Arsenal side.  The most NUFC thing ever wouldn’t be to lose to Spurs in a final; it would be to lose 2-0 at home to Arsenal and go out on pens :)

That’s par for the course. To Arsenal? Absolutely.  I can handle that. That’s normal.

Beat them at Old Trafford last time we played on neutral ground. Unsure of anything else.

One thing I will say is that if we do get to the final, our support needs to be far better than it was last time. Didn’t bother doing anything til the 85th minute.

I’m yet to experience a cup final defeat which didn’t hurt despite expecting all of them.  I’ve got far less dislike for Spurs than I had for Man Utd in the ‘90s.

Plenty of managers I dislike, but Ange is certainly not one of them. You'll never agree with everything a manager says, not even your own. After all, it's a game of opinions.

But in a world full of boring, monotone managers, he's charismatic, direct, forthright and stands by his players.

What I like most is that he calls out interviewers and pushes back against their shit, snide questions. He won't have it, and I'm all for it.

I guess this is on an earlier page, but the final is Sun March 16. If still in Europa, Spurs would play three days before on Mar 13. There would be a CL game for Liverpool on Mar 11 or Mar 12.

Assuming we get through, I'd rather face Spurs than Liverpool. Most of it is down to Mo Salah winning games on his own like a cheat code.

Don't know if this has been covered or not but if we get to the final and loose to Liverpool they are nailed on for champions league for the league would we then be in Europe as runners up if our own league position doesn't get us there?

No, runners-up in the LC have never qualified (unlike the FA Cup)

Loose means baggy

Lose means more Wembley heartbreak

Would feel confident of beating Spurs, with Liverpool its more a case of hope rather than belief, having said that a full strength Spurs would still be a very tough game but its a no brainer who you would rather play of the two teams.

The handball rules rules are pretty clear too, but it didn't stop him acting like a child after the game against us.  Most managers seem likeable after their team has won, the test comes when they lose.

I'd really disagree that the handball rule is clear. The consistency in which the handball law is applied isn't particularly great. Specifically when it comes to awarding penalties for handball.

I didn't agree with him the other day (I'm biased of course) but as I said, it's a game of opinions.

To be fair, if the roles were reversed and Madison handled the ball accidentally and Son scored as a result, I think many here would have been annoyed.
