Think Anelka was right at the end, but yeah Kevin Davies and Nolan were grim, although Okocha, Djorkaeff, and Campo made them quite watchable.

Man United winning the league in Fergie's last season comes to mind, maybe Spurs finishing 4th under Conte.

That Man Utd league victory was fergies greatest achievement ever IMO.

Ipswich 00/01. They seemed to lose in the Play-Offs every year, they sold Dyer to us, finally got promoted that season, then finished 5th with the likes of Wright, Bramble, Venus, Holland & Stewart. Took it to the last game to finish 3rd which would have been Champions League.

That team played some fantastic football during the season - fully deserving of their finish - obviously couldn’t keep it going, but take nothing away from them - fair play

Oh aye, it was a definite one-off. Marcus Stewart for example was a good second/third tier striker but was on fire that year. Bramble probably went on to have the best career out of the group which says a lot. Matty Holland seemed a dependable midfielder but nothing special.

Us finishing 5th with Williamson, Santon, Raylor, Jonas, Shola, Leon Beast, Guthrie etc.

A few quality players and a shit hot streak from Cisse got us there... and obviously a great team spirit and morale.

Colo - Enrique - Tiote - Cabaye - Ba - HBA that’s a decent crop of players tbh

I just really hope neither them or Spurs get into the CL via Europa league.

Man U seem capable of turning it on against big name sides.

Do we lose the 5th place CL slot if they do? :bob:

No - top 5 guaranteed

Man U just get an additional slot as Europa winners

Can have a max of 6 places - 7 if Villa win CL and finish outside top 5

Forest the last time they finished 3rd were pap on face value and quicky found their level thereafter but were much better to watch than current Forest.

Combination of promotion momentum, Collymore's brief hot-spell and Bryan Roy's one and only good season.

Good players aye but the whole starting XI and regular subs weren't strong. Krul Colo Cabaye Tiote Ba were excellent throughout the season. Cisse, HBA, Ameobi came up big when needed too. Jonas put in a shift.

But it wasn't a strong team and it never got close to repeating.

Our bench tonight: Olsen, Disasi, Mings, Maatsen, Garcia, Asensio, Onana, Malen, Watkins.

I don't think we've ever had a stronger bench, and after a season of injury decimation, we've got almost everyone fit at just the right time.

And having said that, we'll put in a shit performance against Brighton, because, well, Villa.

That's a red card I think. Surprised VAR aren't at least suggesting another look whilst the guy is down injured.

It was a definite red for me. Could have broke his leg.

But got the ball so yellow... 🤷
