Not at all.

Bayern are owned by a division of one of the largest car manufacturers in the world.

The worlds largest sportswear manufacture, and one of Germany’s and the worlds largest banks.

Leverkusen are owned by one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

Wolfsburg owned by one of the largest car manufacturers in the world.

Stuttgart owned by a division of one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, and one of the largest luxury car manufacturers.

Sick of the myth that surrounds German football. They have all benefitted by being able to be owned by these companies and having their money trickle down to them to sustain them.

What myth? Surely the more fun involvement in football, the better?

What do you suggest?

The teams who currently finish 25th to 36th all drop into the Europa League instead of going home?

Don't think it would make any difference, as those are mostly the teams who would have finished bottom in the old group format. You'd always get 3-4 good sides at least drop in from finishing 3rd, now they play the play-off round in the CL instead and then go home.

Like said above, better the devil you know for sure.

When we were in the UEFA semis under that format we were with Valencia, Villareal, Marseilles (bt Liverpool)

Quarters: Celtic (bt Barcelona), Bordeaux, PSV and Inter

Seen stronger intertoto cups than this

You also had teams who would fall into it early on through fucking up qualifying as well, that doesn't happen anymore as the big leagues are straight in to the groups regardless.

CL is bloated and Waffa Cup has been diluted beyond repair I think these days.

Mate, we are owned by Saudi Arabia.

I’m making a point about how the Germans make out as if their league and teams are free from ownership of global companies, and how they are ‘fan owned’.

The reality is they aren’t, they are arguably the most capitalistic clubs in the world, and they wouldn’t be anywhere near as big as they are without such companies owning them, and their fanbases wouldn’t be anywhere near as big without those companies subsidising their ticket prices.

Always thought CL teams dropping into the Europa was a load of bollocks but I've changed my mind, they need to change it back. This tournament is going to become dominated by underperforming but overpowered PL teams winning it just to get the CL cash.

One of the biggest losers of the change will be sevilla. I'm sure half of their Europa wins was from them being relegated to europa from the UCL and going on the win it.

However the current system does help "poorer" leagues more I guess.

Being owned by big companies or individuals means nothing if they don't invest in them.

Plenty of examples of this.

Might want to ask Valencia fans what they think of Peter Lim etc.

I'm not sure they do tbh.

Even so their clubs are ultimately fan owned, which leads to more favorable fan treatment. I'm not sure how you frame that as a bad thing.

It made it a much stronger competition. Feels like a slightly better Conference League now.

Tbh I would love to see Man city in europa next season after spending 100s of millions in the summer. It would make the whole thing look like the unserious joke it has now become.

Unserious? Because it’s the most entertaining of the European competitions last time I checked.

The sheer financial power means they're stronger and will start winning this competition on the regular even if they're absolutely shite. That's my point and it's shit. It's probably going to be an all English final this year with two teams who are barely above relegation in an ordinary season.
