The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Conference League (at least)

Recommended Posts

now that I know what Newcastle success tastes like there's the feeling of wanting more

I would almost be happier with Europa League as we'd have a great chance of going all the way

(as much as I want CL football and appreciate that's what the club needs for revenues)

whatever happens now nobody can argue this season hasn't been a success

I don’t see any reason why we can’t finish ahead of Chelsea and City aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders. Forest look like they’ll keep going but it only takes a small swing for us to close the gap to them.

Got to say, aside from the possible Champions League implications for us, it will be good to see Forest return to his remarkable adventures after his loss of Jenny.

Not confident of getting 4th, I think that's a big ask considering the teams above and around us.

I think 5th is doable but we really can't be leaving it to the last few games. I'd not enjoy NEEDING to get something from Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.

The next four games are huge, we should be winning all of them if we want to seriously be in with a chance of UCL next season.

I feel like we normally end seasons strongly. Hope that trend continues.

Team that usually use a high press system, which we can do when we are on it, usually do have better ends to the season.

Whilst I can see us being 10 clear of Chelsea before we play them (look at their fixtures there are banana skins aplenty for the way they are playing) there is no way we are 10 clear of 6th place with 3 to play. We'll need 3 or 4 points from those games

I'd be happy with CL or Europa.

CL, we get that revenue boost and probably hold onto our purples, Europa we have a decent chance of replacing some of the cobwebs in our trophy cabinet with some silverware.

Conference league would be the consolation prize and a bit meh but, at the end of the day, it's European football and another chance to win something.

My thoughts on the conference league have definitely changed since last Sunday mind. Even if it is a bit third rate I could always see its purpose for certain clubs and would definitely have accepted being in it to end the trophy drought. Now that we've won a cup I don't even know if I want to be in it with all the disruption it would likely cause our league form. Obviously the CL and Europa League are well worth being in but the conference league just feels a bit meh now.

If it’s all we get, then at the very least it is an opportunity to build up our coefficients for future European campaigns, and to get that £30m the other teams in the Champions League seem to automatically get and we didn’t.

Yeah maybe I am just being spoilt , I just don't think PSR is going to let us build a squad good enough to compete in Europe and the league . It's certainly worth being in the CL or Europa and maybe suffering in the league as a result but not sure it would be for the Conference league .

I think we could rotate the team and still be competitive in the Conference League, in the early stages at least. No idea how the prize money compares.

I’m desperate for CL! Not because I wouldn’t be equally happy about being part of other European competitions. The reason is I want to fuck the entitled cartel up as much as possible as soon as possible. I want us to progress and overtake them. The CL gives us the best chance by far.

Im not worried at all about any of our current best players leaving, especially not at this moment in time. Having said that, I want us to be even more of a force, so that they won’t even think about looking at us and consider picking any low hanging fruit without thinking it’s a waste of time trying for our players unless they think we might be willing to sell player X or so. There’s always gonna be clubs like RM and Barca at the very top of the food chain, but that’s entirely different.

If we get the CL now I’m confident that we will do some great commercial deals which will help us to compete massively. We just recently were in the CL and just won a title and we are an exciting project on the up. Who’s to say “you are not allowed to receive great sponsor deals and such”.

I would enjoy the EL equally as much footballing wise.

I think what we can achieve is very much in the balance part of me thinks the mental fortitude and relief winning something will either make the players relax and play their best football securing 5th spot and champions league or we are in party mode jobs done and the season just ends in us staying in the Conference comp.

Won't be disappointed if this is all we achieve but feel like right it's in our hands

I think the more we keep other teams out of the CL the more damage we do to them and their status, and correspondingly the more we build our own, both for our profile and for new recruits.

Maybe I'm being greedy, but I'd love us to go on a run now safe in the knowledge that we can beat anyone on our day. Hopefully it gives them the thirst for more.

I do get the worry about how far we can strengthen the squad in the summer and so how far we'd be able to actually compete, but it's a chance and I'd love us to take it. You can't always be thinking 3 seasons ahead, you need to move forward every season, so hopefully this is the springboard for what we do next.

This. Getting CL is a win win for us.
We get the ££ and they don’t. We build coefficient and theirs drops lower.

I think it is highly advantageous in what is a very congested battle for Europe this season that we at least have a guaranteed European place and a trophy.

it means we can only look at the clubs ahead of us and not worry about what’s behind us

I am a bit disappointed that we seem to be squarely within the PSR rules. We should be pushing the envelope and at least be getting warnings about overspending.  Noon especially needs to increase, considering their hideous yellow badge that clashes with the jersey. Adidas should have to pay extra for coming up w/ an ugly home jersey (the away is 10; home is a 4).

Three season ends under Eddie Howe.

21/22

P10 W6 D0 L4 Pts 18

22/23

P10 W5 D3 L2 Pts 18 Final game was dead rubber draw at Chelsea after sealing CL with nervy draw vs. Leicester

23/24

P10 W6 D2 L2 Pts 20

Massive plaudits to Eddie for working em hard but keeping it going at the business end of the season.

The same again, say 18, would do very nicely and get us to 65 points. I reckon that would be enough.

Our game against Man Utd is the weekend between their quarter final games in Europa League.

Villa the weekend after their 2nd game in CL.

Chelsea the weekend after their semi final in conferance(if they get there).

Arsenal probably will have secured 2nd and lost the chance to the title by the time we play them.

Think our schedule might end up being alot easier than it looks on paper.

Might be asking some as we've not been as solid at home this season, but win five of the six home games and win at Leicester and we're there. For what it's worth I don't think we will win five but I think we'll pick up more than three points in the road.

Forest look good to me and you can never bet against Man City, but Chelsea have a tough run and aren't in form. Villa too are distracted and a bit up and down. It might be sides like Brighton, Bournemouth or Fulham we have to shake off to get fifth.

Would actually be massive if Bournemouth beat Man City in the FA Cup this weekend.

Suddenly you potentially have Forest or Brighton, Villa, Bournemouth, and Fulham all distracted by a trip to Wembley and their biggest chance to win a trophy for at least a generation.
