With the Arsenal VAR ‘was it out so-called controversy it was amazing to find out how many fans don’t know it has to be the whole ball.

Paullow
It stands to reason that you would want favourable results in matches involving teams in and around us. The whole 'if we don't beat xxx, then we don't deserve xxx' argument is lame as well. If Villa lost Man Utd would they not deserve it? Likewise if Chelsea lost to Forest? The league is over 38 games not 1 or 2, and if we get more points than 15 other teams we would deserve it, and it that means rivals dropping points to increase our chances, then that's great. Arsenal will not give that second place up without a fight today and will be well up for it. While it's in our hands, I just don't see the point in worrying about other results, Forest's in particular. I did it last time and it sucked all of the enjoyment out of the experience. It's incredibly unlikely that Forest catch us and if they do it means that Chelsea might not. Yeah it'd be better if they have something to play for next week, but the City Ground will be bouncing anyway, so we're probably talking marginal gains. Oh course, but the worrying and stressing about permutations is futile, especially when Forest's game doesn’t really do much for us. Favourable results are more in hope than expectation, we're still really nicely placed.
Elma
The only realistic way Forest overtake us is if they win their last two, meaning we'd have to lose the last two with a GD of at least -5 for Chelsea to overtake us too. It's one or the other now. If we'd got a draw at Villa we'd be there now (although I appreciate every team can say something similar).

I don’t think the Man U/Spurs model of crashing the league is ideal either which is why I think squad size will also be an issue. They can crash the league and FA Cup. But they still need a bigger squad. Momentum is good for Europe imo. Yo some degree anyway. If Palace played it right, they could aim just to do the bare minimum in the league, smash the Europa League and end up with Champions League the following season. However, the absolute worst case scenario for the end is looking like a major trophy and a place in the EL next year. That scenario still represents the best season's achievement I've ever known - the worst that can happen is still the best I've ever known. That's quite a large and shiny silver lining imo You're right obviously, it's objectively an amazing season whether we qualify for CL or not. It'd be a bit disappointing since we've spent 13 of the last 19 weeks and the last 7 within the top 5. It's not the same as the Pardew season where we hovered around 5th/6th for most of the second half of it. If we miss out, short-term I'll be disappointed but it won't be for long. Erikse
18 hours ago, Stifler said: No, that place fucks off back somewhere in Europe. Apparently not if this happens: Quote By rights, the winners of the Conference League get a place in the Europa League. If Chelsea beat Betis and finish inside the top five, there will be no change to the allocation. Chelsea will qualify for the Champions League and no other Premier League team will get their Europa League place for winning the Conference League. But if Chelsea win the Conference League and finish sixth and Newcastle finish in seventh, or Chelsea win the Conference League and Chelsea finish seventh, the Premier League gets an extra team in the Europa League, and 10 in Europe, according to ESPN's Dale Johnson. So if Chelsea win Conference and specifically finish 6th with us finishing 7th, that means we will get the extra Europa League spot? Honestly this seems so much more confusing than I thought. Even premierleague.com writes "according to ESPN's Dale Johnson" because even they don't understand it all themselves. The way I interpret this is that if a team qualifies for the same tournament (either UEL or UECL) through both a tournament win and league position, that means the PL get an extra spot in that tournament (and in Europe in general)? But it doesn't work that way for the CL I think. Arsenal winning CL would not have meant that 6th would get CL aswell? And then the spot gets passed down to 8th if Chelsea gets 7th? Do we simply have to have a team in the Conference League? Edited 2 hours ago by Erikse

I think a team like palace need the momentum. But aye a high midtable run then fucking off the league a bit in April and sliding is fine for them. And yeh I can see that actually happening. Think Leicester did that when they got to the Europa semi’s. I would love Palace winning the Europa league. Also they think qualifying for Europe by winning a competition is way better prep than finishing 7th or 8th tbf. You have to slay a beast to win a cup. It’s a lot mentally. The PL is so much more fun without a dominant city team. They are the only club atm with the resources (allowed) and desire to dominate English football. No American owner wants to spend the money to dominate. No other owners are allowed to dominate. If not for City and Pep. I would think we could win a PL in the next 3 years if most chips fell in our favour. 82-85 point league titles are way more achievable and exciting than 90+ point titles.
