Anthony Gordon

Recommended Posts

You expect your wingers / inside forwards to lose possession every now and then, otherwise they're not really attacking. It's the manner of it, losing it in his own half, the head down and slight jog after the ball as if there's something going on. Hopefully just fitness related. Weirdly I think his explosive start with us is now doing him no favours as that's the level we know he can operate at, and he's not been there for a few months now.

Who would even be in for Gordon this summer, after the season he has had? Not sure Chelsea need him. I think the likes of us and Villa are the best teams who would start him quite often. Most of the top teams seems to prefer different attributes in their wingers. Was honestly surprised about the Liverpool links last year, I wonder how much they really wanted him. I don't think they do now.

Yep, it's shite. Even if we could only get £60m for Gordon and sign Eze for the same, isn't it worth something daft like an extra £40m we could spend this summer? Someone with a better understanding of PSR could explain it better.

I agree but this season he doesn’t have the work rate he had. Something is off with him

That's my (very high level) understanding of it. I can't be arsed to look into it properly.

It's the needlessly throwing himself to the ground with very little or no contact. It's the protesting on the ground for too long while play carries on. It's the running into blind alleys and attempting to drop the shoulder one too many times. He's really frustrating to watch at the moment.

This is going over the top FFS. Are LW a cursed position?

Gordon is fine. He is just not in exceptional form like last season. You guys need your head checked if you think the starting left winger for England doesn’t worth 60m on the market.

I’m hoping it’s just a mentality thing at the moment, either mental fatigue or trying too hard etc. Give him a nice summer off and he’ll be alright.

We already have a thin squad and a few players i would much rather replace before Gordon (Willock, Longstaff, Wilson).

We dont want to bring in too many new players, so lets keep the good ones we got for now. Dont need help with PSR this summer I think.

He’s probably on three times as much money now as he was a year ago. Going to any club that could afford him he would want more money and I can’t see him anyone paying him it.

Opposition teams work out how to stop certain players. Look at Palmer at Chelsea, Foden at City. They haven't become bad players overnight.

We also play these players to death.  I doubt that Gordon has had more than a week away from playing, training or rehab since 2021.  Add a newborn in there as well and it's no wonder he's starting to look knackered.

It would be a significant step back IMO, we're talking about one of England's most promising young players here.

Still have Barnes as the No1 and allow us to grab a couple of decent players who may improve over him, if not already there

Reminder if we sell him we get to reinvest the money.

I'm not at all concerned about selling him personally.

Would be more concerned if it meant willock and Barnes are that sides wing options if we chose to gamble on not getting an out and out replacement.

I'm not one wanting to sell him, but I agree with roca - we can be quite sure any money received would be for a good purpose. So we don't need to think in terms of steps back.

Well from that POV I'm not against selling anyone. I know the money would be invested in any event.

But I still think we can have a view on which players we would rather keep/use.

Willock may be on his way, wasn't Palace mentioned earlier.

Yeah but I think it does say something when you sell your top young players. Like, I wouldn't want to replace him with 2 Brighton-style spreadsheet players just because of PSR.

Unless we have to, obviously.

It wouldn't be ideal, but a significant step back is a bit of a stretch given we'd likely only sell assuming we had someone else lined up (unless he requests to leave after he's told Liverpool want him and our hands are tied)
