Reckon us trying to sell him - or him perceiving that - messed with his head and that's why he was shit early on. Then he got the love with the tifo and the contract and he went on a good run again. Then he fucked up and got sent off, everyone slagged him off and he went shit again. I reckon it was 'cause he had a brilliant season, got picked for England ahead of Grealish, but only played about 2 minutes the whole tournament, and didn't even get picked for games everyone was saying he should've been in. Southgate really knocked the lads confidence. Plus, nearly all the English wingers had a patchy season – Palmer, Foden, the lot. He'll be back to his best next season after a summer break. We definitely shouldn't sell him, IMO.

If our recruitment was as efficient as the best in field there'd always be a silver lining. Seems as though the Executive level hasn't been functioning well for a while. The Staveley situation, we get Ashworth in. I assumed the idea was Ashworth was going to set up the system outside first team management. Scouting, analysis, youth level coaching, have it all streamlined as working towards making the squad as strong as possible and as cost effective as possible to make sure PSR is as little a hinderance as possible. What the hell happened at the top these last few years.

ryanegg
I'd hate him to go, but out of all that we would get decent money for.. he would be the one we could fare best from selling imo.
Yorkie
Can't bear the thought of him going and realising all that potential at fucking Liverpool. He's class, don't want to lose him at all.

ianbeany
Some of the comments there are brutal Quote One of the most disgraceful links i’ve seen in a long time. I would rather Rio Ngumoha be promoted than waste money on this bang average player. He has NOTHING to his game that would improve us. Quote Destroys the entire window if this waste of space is signed. Instantly Hughes out if it transpires. First time I will ever hate watch a player that plays for LFC. I think he can have his moments mentally, but ideally with no distractions and no sitting on the bench at an international tourney he should be coming out flying after a summer of rest. Lordshola
He’s been very much out of form this year. If we get good money, I wouldn’t be opposed to him going tbh.

Optimistic Nut
He'd no doubt kick on at Liverpool, but if they're offering a huge fee, he's still the one of the big money players I'd sell if it meant 3-4 come in. Reckon the drop off or hole left by Tonali, Bruno or Isak would hurt us far more and I don't think anyone else in the squad other than possibly Tino now would fetch £70-80m plus. Optimistic Nut
Joelinton probably the only other one I'd reluctantly sell if we got a good offer. Not that he'd kick on like Gordon I think he's at his absolute peak, but you could buy a 10 (Pedro?) and change system, or find it easier to find a midfield destroyer for cheaper than a Tonali, Bruno or Isak replacement. Mattoon
I'd hate to see him go to the scousers but if a strong bid comes in and he wants to go then there's little point in keeping him and we could do a lot with that kind of money and I think keeping him against his will would see his performances go down the pan. 1964
If he goes to liverpool he will be under scrutiny, blue shite when he's off form and his head will explode. I honestly don't think it's a good move for him. He's hated by a sizeable base of the support and will find it tough to win them round

Did you not watch us after Big Joe was injured? - looked a poorer team. Agree though if you could get some decent money and invest, say Ederson (Atalanta) then aye. St1pe
I feel like there’s been a bit of an agenda against Gordon. His form was inconsistent in the second half of the season but still had decent numbers and put in some huge performances like the semi final. It seems to be some sort of hangover from the club trying to flog him to Liverpool to solve the PSR issues and certain sections of the fan base have blamed him for “having his head turned”. Selling out best players is madness and we need him firing if we’re going to keep progressing.

Yeah, let's offload the Longstaffs, Willocks, and Targetts first, before we even think about selling our best players.

mighty__mag
Mentioned this weeks ago, the whole summer will be about, Gordon / Isak / Livramento all leaving. There's months of this, and our NE Journalists will push the narrative all summer.

That red card vs Brighton was absolutely stupid, mind, but the lad got the punishment he deserved by missing a cup final, and that should have been the end of the matter.
