It’s dumb money at that point, where it doesn’t matter how good that one player is, you can strengthen the squad a lot more with £100m that also has greater future impact. 

If our recruitment was as efficient as the best in field there'd always be a silver lining. Seems as though the Executive level hasn't been functioning well for a while. The Staveley situation, we get Ashworth in. I assumed the idea was Ashworth was going to set up the system outside first team management. Scouting, analysis, youth level coaching, have it all streamlined as working towards making the squad as strong as possible and as cost effective as possible to make sure PSR is as little a hinderance as possible. What the hell happened at the top these last few years.

Exactly this, he will be back to his best or even better next season imo. 
 

I think he can have his moments mentally, but ideally with no distractions and no sitting on the bench at an international tourney he should be coming out flying after a summer of rest.

He'd no doubt kick on at Liverpool, but if they're offering a huge fee, he's still the one of the big money players I'd sell if it meant 3-4 come in. Reckon the drop off or hole left by Tonali, Bruno or Isak would hurt us far more and I don't think anyone else in the squad other than possibly Tino now would fetch £70-80m plus.

Joelinton probably the only other one I'd reluctantly sell if we got a good offer. Not that he'd kick on like Gordon I think he's at his absolute peak, but you could buy a 10 (Pedro?) and change system, or find it easier to find a midfield destroyer for cheaper than a Tonali, Bruno or Isak replacement.

I'd hate to see him go to the scousers but if a strong bid comes in and he wants to go then there's little point in keeping him and we could do a lot with that kind of money and I think keeping him against his will would see his performances go down the pan.

Did you not watch us after Big Joe was injured?  - looked a poorer team.  Agree though if you could get some decent money and invest, say Ederson (Atalanta) then aye.

His form was inconsistent in the second half of the season but still had decent numbers and put in some huge performances like the semi final. It seems to be some sort of hangover from the club trying to flog him to Liverpool to solve the PSR issues and certain sections of the fan base have blamed him for “having his head turned”. 
 

Selling out best players is madness and we need him firing if we’re going to keep progressing.

This is exactly what is likely to happen for me - the lad isn’t close to consistent enough for that level, and the microscope would be on him.

That red card vs Brighton was absolutely stupid, mind, but the lad got the punishment he deserved by missing a cup final, and that should have been the end of the matter.
