You'll notice that Joelinton moves into the pocket to get the first pass.  Maxi then gets the ball closer to goal.

That's what worked well last season, Joe essentially kicking the shit out of everyone in that space so Maxi could stay forward.

He's been immense.   Lots of work in the middle third and in our third.  Winning the ball, holding onto and passing to move us up the pitch.

 

That sloppy play was his first shite moment.

 

ASM probably just has a specific instruction where to get the ball.  So he's not doing loads, but I guess that's deliberate.
