Odd that we haven’t played him there more if that’s what we thought we were buying. I thought he'd play RW. Yes, it is a bit odd.
The College Dropout
12 hours ago, Unbelievable said: That deal looks a lot worse for us in hindsight. It looked awful at the time. Anderson always had the potential to be worth £35m at some point - he was probably worth half at the point of sale. Our lad wasn’t worth the £5m Forest paid. Let alone 4x… at 30. And will never be worrh that. Not even half. It’s been a great move for Anderson and I’m delighted for him. Managing to stay fit the entire season has been crucial. A couple seasons back I thought he might not ve athletic enough for the PL. Then last season he stated sharply and looked too physically. Got injured and bar a couple games (Spurs he was great) he never hit those heights again. He’s gone to Forest and kicked on a level or two. Playing in a double pivot often. The College Dropout
A piece of scouting software saying Gordon is a RW doesn’t mean we signed him to play RW. In his rare starts in his first season he started at LW right? Eddie always intended to play him there.

It wasn’t scouting software, if I remember rightly it was our formation and he was on the RW slot. No reason for him to be there if they didn’t intend, at least at that time, for him to be at least a more regular feature in the RW slot.

kingxlnc
Also we had a very good run of form with that B I G strike force with Gordon on the right and Barnes on the left last season. He definitely can do it but think he is stubborn and head strong.

Last game of the year vs Chelsea, when he scored, he was played centrally as a 8. Not sure where he usually played in the subs appearences but I rememeber the instance where he had his strop after being subbed off as a substitute (against Brentfordd I think) he was on the right. Then he played CF for England U21s that summer and came back and immediately started smashig the LW position.

Not sure if it was a specific run but there was a crazy stat about their scoring record as a three at one point: Quote Unbelievable Newcastle United stats – A few of these may shock you… April 16, 2024 Olly Hawkins The dust has settled following Saturday’s stunning 4-0 win over Spurs and we have picked out a series of incredible stats that feel well worth sharing. In the 136 minutes Gordon, Isak and Barnes have played together in the Premier League this season, Newcastle have scored eight goals – one every 17 minutes – and conceded none. Three goals for Isak, two for Barnes, one for Gordon. Three assists for Gordon, one for Isak. This comes from Ben Spratt (@bensprattjourn) on Twitter. https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2024/04/16/unbelievable-newcastle-united-stats-nine-stunners-i-simply-had-to-share/ Edited 15 hours ago by Checko

The Chelsea away game is a bit of an oddity as there were no fit midfielders IIRC, Longstaff, Willock and Joelinton were all injured, Shelvey had gone so it was Gordon and Anderson alongside Bruno. Still it was a lovely day out in the sunshine baiting Lampard, good times!

He seemed to only ever start when both Isak or St-Maximin were out. He didn't unsettle the right beyond Murphy/Almiron but I'm guessing if they were out he'd have played there too. Was more a bedding in period his first half season.

andycap
The one thing with Anderson was he was kind of our joelinton replacement as far as physicality tenaciousnous and aerial duel winner. I think we've missed him this year especially when big joe has been playing with knocks.

We need another physical beast in midfield, that's not Miley and Longstaff/Willock aren't good enough although I expect one of them to stay.

Turnbull2000
Chelsea will earn a minimum of £30m from the Club World Cup nonsense, so doubt a UEFA fine will hurt them much. First the hotel 'sales' (of which they scandalously keep the income), then the women's team at a ridiculous price (rescued them domestically at least), and now the Club World Cup - Chelsea have been dubiously bailed out every fucking time. It stinks.

Become a big lad but doesn’t get around the pitch like Joelinton or Sandro. Neither did Anderson at the same age. But he kicked on. I think 3rd choice CB and immediate backup CM are such crucial roles for teams in the CL and we are so light there in depth and quality. Arsenal: Rice, Odegaard, Partey, Merino, Jorginho, Havertz. Villa: Kamara, Onana, Tielemans, McGinn, Rogers, Asensio. Barkley. Newcastle: Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton, Willock, Miley, Longstaff. That’s not going to have us competitive on 3 fronts. We’ll need another purple CM so we can properly rotate. Edited 10 hours ago by The College Dropout

andycap
Anderson nips at heels and has legs to get up and down the pitch. Miley at this moment I don't think he has them attributes but he has other qualities like an eye for a pass passing range a goal threat more of a number 8 or 10.
