Miley isn't going anywhere, lads. Longstaff, Wilson and, to some degree, Willock are getting the nod before Miley for a number of reasons.

Not least being his nurtured return from injury but also the experience and (perceived or otherwise) reliability.

Needing to rest/save "starters" whilst defending leads is probably a time for safety first.

In Eddie/MadDog we trust.

Don't bother replying, if you could even be arsed in the first place 😂, with your individual critique of the qualities of those 3 aforementioned players. I'll just go with what Howe does, tbf 👍

We probably won’t sell him, and I don’t want us to. He has a bright future.

Having said that, let’s not kid ourselves that IF a very good offer comes in we might very well consider it. If the club see that the money in could be used for a better player and some more. One that is ready now to play on a regular basis without the quality in midfield dropping.

It doesn’t mean that the club don’t believe in him. It could just be that they think there’s a quicker route to the top. It’s a different matter in the future where we won’t have to wheel and deal to the same degree.

A loan to the Bundesliga wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for his development but we're going to need him next season, his time will come.

We shouldn't even be entertaining the notion of selling him. Sure, he's far from the finished article but if he's got it in him, Eddie will find it.

Fun, and seemingly widely unknown, fact.  Miley isn't actually "slow" - quite the opposite in fact as analysis data will bear out.

His perceived "lack of pace" may be due to the fact that in his appearances to date he hasn't been in a role to go on blistering runs. Wait for it, it will be quite a revelation.

On the broader point his "problem" is (though it's not really a problem) that he is an 18 year old in a squad which has the best performing midfield 3 in football right now.

If that 3 are going to play 50 odd games without suspension, injury or anything else then yes he needs to move on.

Of course any sane person, or non-journalist, knows that that is not going to happen and next season (if not already this) he is our next best midfield player.

Can't see any situation, currently, where it would make sense to let him go.

Is there anywhere else that would be better for a talented 18 year old midfielder, than to be working with those 3, as well as the rest of our highly talented and motivated squad, right now ?

We, like him, just need to be a little bit patient for now but his time will definitely come.

Would be horrified if we sold Miley. I don't think we'd consider it but I'm perturbed by the gossip. It feels agent driven and if he's fussing about lack of game time then we need to get him out on loan. He can definitely feel aggrieved about being behind Longstaff in the pecking order, though hopefully that's just a means to an end.

Letting him out on loan would more or less not get us any money in whatsoever We would then have to get two CM in.  We are very light in that area when you consider that we play with 3. I don’t see Longstaff staying beyond this season either.  Especially light in quality.

Aye. I think he’ll get plenty of games next season tbh. Hopefully he can have a proper preseason this time and really kick on and challenge.  So so many games to be played too.

How is it getting worse?

Yes , Tom Cairney

if it was a straight choice for a game played tonight and I had to choose!

Age is irrelevant in my point , my point is we are living in the here and now and we need better (squad) and 1st team players to close the huge gap/drop off

Maybe it's just me like, but I personally wouldn't play a 34 year old Tom Carney over Miley in a flash and I would be amazed if Howe would either. Miley will be getting a lot of attention in the background.

McGinn obviously walks in ahead of him, but Jacob Ramsey and Mateus Fernandes I dunno? I don't think there's much to suggest either would get in ahead of Miley after another pre-season?

If we loan him we need to sign 2 CMs.

Fkn hell lads, he's 18. I repeat, 18. He's got years ahead of him and could, hopefully, be absolutely fantastic in 3 years time. At which point he'll have reached the ripe old age of 21. I'm all in on Miley.

Aye but he could be shit therefore we should buy Tom Cairney instead.

It’s easy forget he’s actually 18 like, since he’s played some games for us and is much more involved in the team than any normal kid would be.

The x-factor bit sticks in my mind like. Can't work it out, Miley plays in a holding role but despite that has played quite a few passes that have had the crowd loving it, including assists, line splitting passes, and he's scored a few times too. All at Premier League and Champions League level. He was fantastic away to PSG especially. And he's 18 with loads to learn.

I think home grown with value while we still navigate the PSR shite will always come about prospect of selling. Howe himself said regards Anderson albeit paraphrasing here clubs are rewarded financially from selling the local academy products. Ultimately he may struggle here to break through to get the minutes needed to push his development and ultimately be sold.

However we aren't there yet surely out of the "extra" squad in midfield we have longstaff and willock are first to go. Depending on injuries later in his career big Joe could also be sold down the line plenty of opportunity yet.

The biggest downside of no Europe and a very good first 11 means we struggle to give meaningful minutes to our good enough to play but not good enough to take the starting spot.

Hoping that if we do get Europe next year (I know we have conference but its qualifier only, I believe) we mange to get Europe again come the end of the following season. Extra games are a drain on a smaller squad but season on season Europe is how clubs status and finances start to keep pace with ambition. Plus gives squad members meaningful minutes.

Right now it's a win win he's young and developing if it works out it has the potential to save us 40/50/60m in the future recruitment if it fails the prices of young players with potential could still get us 20/30m in the future of pure profit to invest again.

Catching up on this. Some of the takes on here are crazy to me.

I'll stand by this, Miley will be a top Premier League midfielder over the next few season. He has everything needed, passing range, techique, finishing, a good engine, he's deceptively quick, and the game seems to slow down around him when he gets the ball, and one of the best managers to help him get there.

He's captained above his age at England as well, which says a lot.

This isn't just because he came through our academy, it's because he looks that good. My normal worry would be if his head isn't in it and he goes off the rails, but he also seems to be a very calm and quiet personality. So that takes that worry away.

Just to put the Miley leaving/going out on loan bollocks to bed, just because he doesn’t get involved enough in the dying stages of a piss easy 3-0 win against one of the shite-ist teams you’ll ever see.

Quotes from Eddie “Lewis is absolutely pivotal to our future here. From my perspective, he’s going absolutely nowhere. We want to build the team with him in it for many many years.”
