Wallsendmag Posted Friday at 15:10 Share Posted Friday at 15:10 This thread has started me reminiscing about the olden days. All the characters that used to go to the matches who you don't see anymore. Each section had it's own identity. The Corner was mental. You'd go in there with your mates and you were guaranteed to get split up as soon as the first rendition of the Blaydon Races went up (usually within the first 5 mins) and everyone surged forwards on the chorus. The Scoreboard was brilliant as well. I actually preferred it to the Corner, especially towards the back. The banter flying backwards and forwards always good as well. "Why's the Corner full of shit"? Then you went into the Milburn Stand over to the Leazes Section. A slightly older crowd than the Gallowgate. More blokes in their 30s/40s. That was my favourite part of the ground. Very noisy and always had the wittiest songs. Singing Terry Butcher on the Dole to the mackems for about 20 mins non stop when we beat them 1-0 one of many highlights. Then you'd have the Leazes End and all the students and young 'uns who'd congregate right up against the away fans in the little corner bit and just rip the piss out of them constantly. Back in those days the away end only held 950 and not many teams filled that! Then you'd move into the East Stand where you had the benches. Always well populated by some absolute lunatics who would give the opposition players and referees just constant abuse due to their close proximity to the pitch. Looking back it just felt like every end had its own little identity. You'd pick your section depending on what you wanted, sometimes even your mood! Glad I got to experience it anyway. That's what I miss the most, the characters, the humour. Now you've got cunts telling you to sit down at a cup final.

Not sure exactly when the Toon bit crept in but I think the first time a remember it was when we were playing Man Utd at home probably 20 years ago or so. Their away fans were singing "UNITED" and to drown them out our lot were shouting TOON in between and it seemed to catch on from then. I remember other clubs starting to shout 'shit' inbetween our 'united's, so often wondered if the TOON was to drown that out too
Sima Posted Friday at 16:03 Share Posted Friday at 16:03 (edited) Still annoys me that it's now "We love Newcastle, we do" and not "We love you Newcastle, we do". Edited Friday at 16:04 by Sima

I have never noticed that - not that we sing it much these days - when did that change ? Maybe due to more supporters not seeing the team as standing for the city and its people beyond purely football... Or just younguns and their lazy speech.. though having said that the average age of our crowd must impact on the atmosphere - I am 44 and am a youngun in the back of the Gallowgate (mebbes theres a few Luke Littleresque lads who just look 20 years older than their biological age but I think theres a lack of radge older teens and 20 somethings). Wolfcastle Posted Friday at 23:00 Share Posted Friday at 23:00 Heard "Newcastle. United. Will Never Be Defeated" against Wolves. That was a good dredge up mind. First time I heard that was at Boro in the League Cup in 92 and I did idly wonder if it might be the case.

bobbydazzla Posted Saturday at 06:41 Share Posted Saturday at 06:41 (edited) All of these classics that people say they never hear anymore, they all get regular renditions in the Corner at home games I guess that demonstrates how the sound doesn’t travel round the stadium Edited Saturday at 06:46 by bobbydazzla

Sima Posted Saturday at 09:12 Share Posted Saturday at 09:12 When the Leazes End went up in 93/94 that seating block in the Milburn Stand nearest to it was class, seemed to always be on their feet. Then Hall brought in the bond scheme/Platinum Club which disbanded it.

My Da first took me when I was a bairn in 84 - East Stand (benches!) front row in between the Gallowgate box and halfway line (seat 133 I think!) - Sloanes (now the Hancock) pre-match every game with a trip to the old supporters shop (loved that place) near Haymarket bus station on the way up! I remained there until 91 when I started going with mates and we varied where we went - corner, scoreboard, Leazes and Milburn paddocks where we got season tickets until 94 where I moved to my current seat now just behind the Gallowgate goal! Great memories and although I can see the logical side of a new ground, the reasons why I want us to remain! Love these last few pages! Ronson333 Posted Saturday at 14:28 Share Posted Saturday at 14:28 Sounded dreadful on TV, I know it’s a 1230 kick off but empty seats at the end (especially east stand)

Rafalove Posted Saturday at 14:48 Share Posted Saturday at 14:48 Thought it sounded okay for a 12:30 kick off but leaving so early after the run we’ve been on is embarrassing.
Adam Posted Saturday at 15:01 Share Posted Saturday at 15:01 Seriously any cunt leaving early for a 1230 game can fuck off and never come back. The pricks booing at full time also get in the sea. Didn't play well deserved to lose, but support the team till the end. Atmosphere wasn't great and we need more noise, not just reactions.

Why the fuck are people so set on leaving early, we aren't spurs were it takes 30 mins to walk to nearest tube then wait for 30 mins to get on.. Idiots at wolves leaving at 80 mins 3-0 up, today leaving with 7 added minutes. Are they that obsessed with a fucking pint or getting seat in boozer... Unbelievable to think In 2010 fans stayed 4 nil down v Arsenal.
bobbydazzla Posted Saturday at 15:11 Share Posted Saturday at 15:11 When it was still 2-1: ”well that’s me off, see youse again in a couple of weeks” ”aye, champion pal, take it easy” The mind boggles
NUFC91 Posted Saturday at 15:24 Share Posted Saturday at 15:24 (edited) It's so obviously we lost a lot of good fans over last year's it really is. Remember being relegated already at spurs at home Under Benitez, top support for a shite team, even when Howe come in fans were doing anything they could to help get team over line, now got loads of numpties who act same if we winning or losing and leave early at every opportunity... Remember some idiots last season left after draw with Brighton before players did final lap of honour... Edited Saturday at 15:32 by NUFC91
Sima Posted Saturday at 15:48 Share Posted Saturday at 15:48 Special mention to the utter bald walloper in the corner who was moaning from the first minute. Spoke to the gadgie standing to the other side of me and he said he’s a ST holder, the mind boggles. Also cunts booing at FT. Fuck off.
