Match Atmosphere

I went on a coach laid on by a Skunker (can't remember his name) from Amsterdam to Heerenveen. Cans for 1 euro, a porno on the TV and some very suspicious substance on the front dash as you got on the coach. I sat under the armpit of 'Wee' John (is he still knocking about?) on both legs of the journey. Happy days.......

QPR away on Swifties remains one of my best sessions mind.  8 cans, and half a litre of captain morgans mixed with 1.5 litres of coke (not that kind) before we'd even got to London.   All I can recall from the match is seeing some bother in the home end near us (turned out it was Steve Wraith getting punched) and thinking we'd lost.

Ha ha ha I was on that bus - Dutch DJ John - yeah - he's still about - got him on my FB!

 

'Wee' John from Jarra is stil knocking about - was at a funeral not long ago and he was there! 'Wee' being the ultimate opposite of his stature!

We got the train down the night before that one. Was a mad weekend

 

I can still vividly remember Wraith getting a dig off a QPR fan then tumbling down a few rows of the home stand and plenty of people laughing at him from the away end

Had some mad trips over the years with Swifty (RIP), John the Badge (RIP), Keith Barrett, Amanda and Fez from Town - Dougies, Clock and Iona in Hebburn, Hackle in Jarra and Ashley in Shields - made some really good mates due to away games - great craic!

Would have been 2006 as we'd just signed Obafemi Martins and the brand spanking new "21 or 28" tune was non-stop on the bus on the way into Brum

 

Paully was being an absolute peeve menace on the journey back (in a good way)

Oh aye, I was at that match too, but not that bus. 

 

I met my dad at Villa Park for the 2012/13 one and he was late, just made it for first goal. He'd given an unfamiliar bus group a go and arrived late, said the bus was carnage. I know Paully was on it  He ended up stopping the night in my Brum hotel room rather than get back on it.

I remember being 15 on my first Simon’s bus. I assured the lads it won’t be as bad as we’d heard and there’d be no bother.

 

Within 2 minutes of leaving the Black Horse in Monkseaton I’d already been offered cocaine twice 

 

I seem to recall drinking far too much Brown Ale (why did I think that was a good idea at 15?)and spewing into a plastic bag with holes in it all over my shoes. 
 

On another trip I fell asleep in the toilet at WBA for the majority of the game and was fortunately found at full time. Don’t know how, otherwise I’d have been left in Birmingham with no way of getting home

Haven't been on for years, but I know plenty of radgies who can't go due to the ticketing thing, so aye I'd imagine it's calmed down.

Was next to a guy at Heerenveen who was the most intense fan ever. Spent the whole of half time just standing there arms out, silent, like 'FUCKIN COME ON THEN' to the whole ground. Will never forget him.

Hahaha absolute legend! Of all the characters I've met watching NUFC he's right up there as one of the most memorable. Glad to hear he's still on the scene.

Listened to a great podcast earlier about home atmospheres being worse across the board. They covered the cost of tickets affecting young people, the increase in tourism, etc.  

 

Currently, excluding the COVID season, this season has had the lowest percentage of home wins. Also home goals are trending down and away goals are trending up.

 

Nice to add a bit of balance that it's not just us.

It's definitely league wide, like. It's going to shit, modern top level football, if it hasn't already (it has). Ticket prices, scrapping concessions, ID checks, prioritisation of income above all else to the point of fleecing fans and hiding behind PSR as a defence when it's frankly just a load of shit. E-tickets, inability to transfer season tickets for one off matches in some cases (Forest & Brighton I know don't allow it). It's getting worse and worse and will continue to unless fans truly put a foot down about it. Unfortunately I don't think ours will; seen it aplenty on social media and on here. Going into bat for ticket price rises, schemes and a load of 'if you won't pay it I will'. Rank.

 

Plus, it's not as good as it used to be is it?. Whether its being spoilt or just miserable, I haven't particularly enjoyed this season much at all. Even some of the games we've won and/or picking up points in like we were early season I didn't enjoy watching overall.
