I was at the game last night, in the East stand corner again nearish the away fans and for most of the game I couldn't hear the City fans at all and there was a fair amount of singing from the home fans, however, I was sat a bit further along the East stand than the last two times and there wasn't much singing from the people directly around me, including me there was 3 of us joining in every song and a couple of kids behind me getting involved as well, but that was probably only 5 from like 20 sat around me, so definitely felt quiter than when I was sat right in the corner. The only time I heard the City fans over us was directly after the goals. It got very subdued at 0-2 obviously, but game was over then anyway pretty much.

I didn't hear any boos for Elanga, but the collective groans every time he does something wrong must be really hard for him if his confidence is already down, not that I don't get it, but it really can't help.

The leavers were an absolute disgrace, like. I'd be amazed if the players didn't pick up on it - how demoralising, man.

People left at 3-3 against Leeds. I cannot fathom it.

If you're talking about existing season ticket holders, I agree. If you include members in this, then I think there's a lot. Enough to cover say the Leazes/Milburn corner (I'd go from pitch side right up to level 7 there).

But how many of these members who would want to stand up and sing can access tickets on a regular basis due to the ballot? Even those who get them on resale are just dotted about.

35,000 season ticket holders, probably 32,000 of whom have absolutely no interest in standing/singing is where your core problem is at. And that's not going away.

A Supporters Licence should be mandatory before anyone is allowed within fifty yards of a turnstile. Applicants would be subjected to a rigorous, FA sanctioned examination covering all the core competencies of modern fandom. This would include a practical assessment of song lyrics and vocal projection, with bonus marks for lung capacity.

There would also be a behavioural audit, measuring your historical and projected use of racial or homophobic slurs.

Candidates would then be evaluated on their commitment to dramatic early departures. Can you flounce out in the 84th minute when it is 1 to 1 and declare the game is over, even though it very much is not? Can you do it loudly, while blocking three rows of people and spilling someone else’s Bovril?

Only once you have demonstrated adequate incompetence across all modules would you be granted your laminated licence and allowed to sit in the cold, moan about the manager, and go home ten minutes before the winner goes in.

Football. The beautiful farce.

Maybe a tick box somewhere with the question "do you demand a team that wins?"

Yeah, good point. I just know there's a lot of members (a some ST holders) who would join in more if they were in with likeminded fans. I used to have an ST in the corner and absolutely loved it. I go now, sit down nobody is singing and I find it really uncomfortable, both trying to sing or thinking I'm part of the problem by not trying! I honestly think if I'm going without the kids, its corner/back of Gallowgate or I won't bother going.

As a ST holder myself I can confirm that the vast majority of ST holders look down on members and the like. It’s fucking shit and does my head in tbh.

I packed in when Rafa left, but was fortunate enough to basically get gifted a ST (with a load of points too) a couple of years back. I know how lucky I am.

I’ve been a member so I know how it is, but the entitlement from ST holders - especially those with loads of points - is fucking lifting like. Can’t be blaming members for how shite the atmosphere has become when the vast majority of match goers are ST holders who just like to sit on on their arse until 35/85 minutes.

It works both ways mate, because I honestly do lump in all ST holders as non-singing, Ashley sympathisers at times. I know it's not like that for all, but the ways things have gone with atmosphere/away ends and the match day experience being around them, it's really affecting my love for the club.

It's not just the cunts leaving early when the game is the balance but the inevitable chorus of "see yiz next time" and handshakes and back pats as they depart.

There should be no "next time" for these fucking arseholes.

They stayed for 14 years of Ashley and wear that badge of honour with pride, celebrating their own loyalty and stoicism. But they can't stay till the final whistle for a cup semi final when we're 1 nowt down and desperate for an equaliser.

I'd ban the cunts for life. They probably all wear Sketchers, listen to Coldplay and laugh at Michael McIntyre's jokes. Subhuman scum.

Ahh 100% agree with you there. I almost feel like a scab for having a ST now. Seriously.

When I packed in my ticket, I was fucking gutted when I seen there was only about 10k of us that done it, then Ashley just giving them out for nowt and filling our seats. It made me absolutely hate the fans and thought that he’d be here forever.

After the takeover I rather selfishly thought the new owners would just come in, listen to NUST (LOL, jokers) and I’d get my ticket back with all my points to boot. Daft in hindsight.

After that though, the us v them mentality I seen on social media and experienced at the ground with ST holders and members was enough to put me off going for a bit. Just pure entitlement when in reality, people who packed in their ST under Ashley should have been welcomed back with open arms.

It certainly didn’t make you a better fan by sticking around, that’s for sure.

A couple of seasons ago before the Southampton semi final the whole town was bouncing… there were queues to get in bars and the pre match atmosphere was great..

Last night was totally different… ok, it was the 1st leg and Man City… but howay man, it’s a fuckin cup semi final… the place before and during should have been electric… I totally get not everyone wants to sing and shout for 90 minutes… but to sit motionless when we get corners etc and start applying a load of pressure is beyond me… boils my slash…

Bang on. I also made the decision to give up my s-t after Rafa was binned. Heard “you ditched the club when we were s*it” nonsense ever since. All from folk who sit on their hands at home and stayed mute at Wembley.

Said it at the time, but the ST's I was was sat next to for Palace were the worst type of ST, proper scum of the earth.

Sneered at a lad singing and called him a day tripper. When the lass sat next to them got to her seat the first question they asked was "you don't normally sit here, how much did you pay for your ticket". And they then did nowt but yap about their moneyed lives for the entire 90 mins. Even continuing to yap as we were surging into the box on a counter. Cunts need banning.

This was the inevitable outcome after the ballot system was brought in and the reticence from the Club to have a second standing/singing section.

It is all so predictable and will only continue to get worse.

I’ve only been lucky once in the ballot this year and I’m not even sure i want to be successful again. How may others are beginning to feel the same?

There'd have been 35-40k in there either season ticket holders or regulars.

Man City fans were deafening in the Leazes, we tried our best to counter. Obviously not comparable to an away end but not too bad considering.

Wow - i heard them sing three times. Once was about 20mins in briefly and not that very loud, once  singing after they’d voted then right at the very end. Was surprised by how silent they were. Acoustics in that ground are mad.

Thought the atmosphere was good from us, by realistic standards. Not up with the best but significantly better than your average match.

But I was in the corner.

Yep that’s all I used to get. People didn’t really know what to say when I told them I’d sat through 2 seasons in the Championship though.

I’ve been quite vocal on there that I’m fully in favour of reforming ticketing (home and away), safe standing and having a designated singing section.

Apart from 2/3 seasons in leazes L7 corner, and when I was a member getting dotted about, I’ve sat in the Gallowgate for probably 85% of games I’ve been too. And I’ve been going since 97. The atmosphere in the Gallowgate has got worse and worse over the last 2/3 seasons, no doubt about it.

Where I sit towards the back near the Milburn, there’s a group of lads at the back row who try their best to keep

it going, but by and large it gets worse by the week.

I was ashamed last night - a cup semi final and that’s th best we can muster. Embarrassing.

Atmosphere was good overall in the Gallowgate, Strawberry Corner playing the main part. Never heard the Man City fans once until a chant of where’s you famous atmosphere which everyone thought was a bit rich from them [emoji38] Heard them when they scored the three goals but very little else.

End of the day this thread is pretty much pointless until we get a new stadium and better balance of acoustics and more friends sat together if its just for basing what you can hear and when so I think I’ll make it my last post inside it for a while.

Take your focus off the fans sometimes and put it on what they are watching. If your team is struggling to have much of the ball especially in the attacking third or sustain any sort of attacking play as well as not scoring then it’s always going to have its lulls with all the tactical fouling and VAR checks and fake cramp for extra team talks and time wasting and set plays taking forever. It’s killing the spectacle.

Wissa scores that early chance and all of these posts from last night probably don’t even get made [emoji38]

See, you're always sat in the gallowgate in the same seat so you're always going to have the better atmosphere.

I've been in the leazes twice the last 2 games and it was genuinely better on Saturday in the L7 standing than last night in the middle.

I could hear the corner going for most of the game as well.

Just echoing what @Chicken Dancer and @Wallsendmag have said, the season ticket holders are the problem, when atmosphere is poor it's always "tourists" too many "plastic fans getting in" reality is 80% of the ground is season ticket holders..there's your problem, I'd also go as far as saying in several games this season the returned safe standing seats from away clubs have created more atmosphere that most parts of ground, they've actually got the leazes end going at times...

The biggest trouble is WF, trust and supporters club maybe only people who have a input into club but I think they should of really seen this as priority...look at arsenal at home last year in semis, generally cheered the lads over the line, this club, the players and managers deserve better from the supporters.
