The unpopular opinion is that he was never as good as Bruno, or as people thought he was, and the opinion change is a violent reversion to the mean. Same happened when people overrated Gordon’s ability.

I disagree, when he was banned we didn't do well at all, he came back and we won a cup and got champions league qualifaction.

Its Bruno who's inconsistant and has many off games, Tonali on the whole aside for the last few games is always reliable.

My point is people were very keen to consider him something that he’s not, and held very strong biases. As those biases fade they have to reconcile with what he is.

Hes gone from being one of the top 3 midfielders in the league to one of the worst in the last 4 weeks or so.
Did that illness really fuck him up?

Granted last few weeks hasn't been. His usual standards but one of the worse in the league? Catch yourself on lol

Why do we keep playing him if that illness wrecked him? I know he's been given a game off here and there, but if he's fucked - take him out the side until he's fit.

If he's just in poor form, get him on the bench.

Squad is fucked if Howe can't stomach playing anyone over a poor Tonali.

This is just what people post when a player is doing badly. You could literally say it about anyone going through bad form.

Tonali is playing badly right now (with the ball) but he's an elite player.

That’s a genetic fallacy / motive attribution. You’re arguing about why you think people say it (“bad form takes”), not whether it’s true. I am personally making case for only him and Gordon. I argued extensively at peak Gordon that he was not elite and people got upset.

Gordon is 100% not elite.

Honestly, how are people questioning Tonali’s ability after a few bad games. He’s been outstanding for us for so long now, genuinely one of the best midfielders we’ve ever had.

Something’s clearly not right, him being subbed off in the middle of the derby for Willock would never have happened otherwise. If he’s injured, we need to rest him because keeping flogging him and seeing these kind of performances isn’t doing anybody any good.

Honestly, like most of the team at the minute,I don't think they are being setup well enough to get the most of their strengths.

Eddie needs to figure out the whole setup and approach to how we play.

The team doesn't look right and no one is really playing well. When that starts to happen the manager has to change things.

Eddie is atleast seeing the signs considering he has been rested for a couple of games lately, but still not fully getting it with him starting both of our last games.

Tonali is fucking elite, he has showed it for us and he has showed it for Milan.

Most players would have dropped a few levels running 11-12km (including a lot of sprints) every match twice a week for a few months.

He's an absolute meat head.

Tonali is a superb player who's had a handful of poor games this season. Who knows why that is, but to call him a fraud is laughable.
