NUFC Transfer Rumours

Optimistic Nut

Clearly there’s a ton going on based on Howe’s quotes about constant meetings about recruitment. It’s going to be quality but low on quantity. I’d imagine we’re getting max three players in even if there are outgoings. Could possibly only be two incoming but I’m going to stick on 3 as my prediction in

I think 3 senior players in also from this point. Centre half, right winger, striker.

Think it's possible we'll do another loan-to-buy move like Hall's for one of them as well.

I think we might get 4ish. I reckon they are concentrating on top targets right now + outgoings, which will dictate what wriggle room they have going forward.

I know, but I get the feeling Howe doesn't want to sell anyone because he likes them.

That’s why you get a Sporting Director to wield the axe and he can shrug his shoulders and say I’d have preferred to keep them. Good for squad harmony.

I agree, but it definitely becomes a problem if he's doing it over Howe's head.

Pope, Dubravka, Greek bloke, Ruddy, Gillespie

Trippier, Tino, Krafth, Schar, Lascelles, Botman, Burn, Kelly, Hall, Targett

Bruno, Joelinton, Tonali, Willock, Longstaff

Almiron, Murphy, Gordon, Barnes

Isak, Wilson

We've got a 26 man squad there, 25 if Hall doesn't have to be registered which I'm not sure about. We've also still got Lewis, Hayden and Fraser on the books. If we want to add two or three players we're going to have to shift players, at least one of them will be someone Howe would ideally like to keep and I'm sure he understands that as well as anyone.

The minimum for me is a CB and RW.

We have a number of long term injuries at CB at the moment and we also have Schar, Burn, Lascelles and Krafth in the final year of their contracts, so it makes sense to go big on a long term replacement in that position.

RW is different in that we have 2 players there on long term contracts. However, it has been the weak link position in our starting eleven for some time now so if we want to kick on then we need to be looking at adding quality there.

On top of that you have the likes of Wilson, Trippier and Longstaff who are all in the final year of their contact so could be moved on, if they are then I would expect them to be replaced.

Cannot stress how much I disagree on this - we must not and cannot run Isak into the ground.

If Isak can’t manage a 38 game season, then something is wrong with him IMO.

Gordon can fill in there, and so can Joelinton in emergency, in the times Wilson is broken again. Like I’d rather sign another CM than end up with say a DCL or someone that’s not increasing our quality.

RW is the most important position to improve imo, second is to get a more reliable option to Isak up front.

CB would be nice, but isn't a very high priority for me. Schar and Burn are reliable and rarely get injured and we've got Kelly now who can fill, and in emergency Alex Murphy. Botman & Lascelles is back towards the end of the first half of the season. I don't think its worth spending a lot of money on a CB if it means we can't get the targets we want for RW & ST just to have additional cover at CB for 3-4 months. I'd be fine if we waited with getting another CB in until next summer.
