We tried to sign him on a free transfer last summer I believe when he was out of contract at Arsenal.

Reiss Nelson would be like when linked with Elanga. Underwhelming. 

Honestly, if Chiesa is 12.8m which is what I read recently just get him and be done with it.

Nelson as our main RW signing would be incredibly underwhelming. Really think we can do better.

Can't let perfect become the enemy of the good, your Raphinha's and those on similar wages are a lot for the club to stomach, and quite literally any RW we buy somewhere north of 10m would feel an upgrade based on what we have

He’s also currently on £150k p/w, and would presumably be looking for a bit of a raise to come here, so getting someone in to (almost) be our highest paid player, who’s yet to conclusively prove he can reach the levels he did pre-serious injury, would be a tad risky to say the least.

No point buying a marginally better player than miggy then have to upgrade on him again. That RW position is becoming so frustrating it’s absolutely screaming out for a player of the level of Isak & Gordon. Not Reiss fuckin Nelson

But you can pay for that 150k p/w from the 10-12m you would save on the transfer fee of such a player? Normally they would have expected to have paid 25m let's say, even 20m. 
So the budget is still there so to speak.

This is actually the worst thing we can do. Settling for players who are maybe a modest improvement is how we'd get stuck in a never-ending cycle of being average with no money to spend.

 

There is a market between Raphinha and Reiss Nelson, though maybe that player isn't available right now.

Not really the point. If he turned out to be average, every decent player in the squad you try and negotiate a new contract with will have their agent saying “well he’s contributing more than him, and he’s on £150k, so…”

I think the disagreement then is that I don't think we need to improve massively at every position we have that needs an upgrade... I'd take any upgrade on what we have at RW, so long as the price is reasonable. We don't need every transfer to be 40m+

Understand the sentiment, but important to remember that Gordon became who he is now after joining us.

 

If this is true, it may be they're going down the untapped potential route again, and think he could find a much higher level with regular minutes.

 

They would have had to have been following him in the Europa league, or when he was on loan at Feyenoord I imagine, to gather info on him.

 

For me I couldn't even say what to expect from him, as he hasn't featured enough in the Prem to really know.
