Cool.

Everton spent a lot that barely improved the team. Eventually the house capitulated since it was all built on sand.

Rather we are smarter and actually sign players which we are sure about.

Agree, we should have more options and be more proactive with targets.  Hoping lessons are learnt mind.

Basically we have both hands tied behind our backs by PSR which has scuppered this window and our momentum and probably the project because there's no way were getting Champions League this season.

Don't know whether its more or less sad that its outside forces doing to the club what traditionally clubs usually to do themselves (the Bowyer summer, wasting the Gascoigne money, Dalglish's desecration)  There were people at the club to be held to account for that.

I really don't know what they should have done other than massively overpay for Guehi who'd likely have little effect on this season or buy players they didnt fancy or in positions they're not needed in even if the current incumbents aren't up to it, given how particular we have to be with the money.

Elanga wasn’t available in July. So not sure what difference an early pivot would have made. If we got wind he was available at a price we were happy with we might of decided to pivot. No one knows ultimately so no point getting upset about stuff that we don’t know with any great certainty.

How do you know he wasnt available? We were being linked in July so its not a deadline day target.

An earlier decision to move onto other targets should have been made. Surely anyone can agree to that.

Worst window in the league? I don't really follow other clubs but Crystal Palace lost Olise, who Palace Fan said was generally seen as the best player ever to play for them. Plus a quality starting CB. We haven't lost any of our best players, our squad has continuity, which is not to be underrated, they seem a tight-knit bunch.

Some of the older guys: Trips, Burn, Schar, Wilson we can probably expect to be on the gradual physical decline compared to last year.

Yes we lost Anderson, our third choice LCM and probably 4th choice LW, and a talented young RW who didn't play for us last year anyway.

But Dummett, Ritchie, Hendrick, Fraser are all off the books.

All last year's transfers should be better this year: Hall and Tino have a year more in their development. Tonali will be more settled, and also not massively suspended. Barnes hopefully won't miss half the year with a freak injury. We actually have a 3rd striker now to spell Isak when Wilson is injured. Big Joe doesn't have a load of niggles, Pope hopefully won't dislocate his shoulder for a couple more years.

Of course it's not been a good window - but it seems PSR was tight so maybe we were only prepared to risk things for a real top guy. Either way, worst thing would be to panic and buy the wrong person who we then can't shift cause they're on big wages.

If we keep our powder dry for now perhaps it gives us scope to pick up a bargain in January or June, when a few other clubs are panicking about breeching PSR.

Anyway, now we can focus on the season ahead. Eddie now needs to get us to be able to play posession football, cause we're never going to progress if he can't manage that regardless of signings.

That message is not that strong when we went above and beyond in making offers for Guehi that no other club would have come close to matching. Equally, we got rinsed in our Minteh and Anderson dealings. We don’t look like strong negotiators in all honesty from the outside looking in but who knows

Not this summer at least.

How many forwards have they got that play in the same positions now?

Just for RW they have

Palmer

Madueke

Neto

Sancho

It's slightly disturbing the way that players are still signing for them tbh.

It's all about PSR associated risk as far I can tell. Don't buy unless absolutely sure of the character. Too much risk of buying a dud or upsetting the squad unity. Could be better but could also be worse. Pressure will be on to produce results from the horde now though

We should've went for lower targets if we couldn't get our first choices in, imo.

We should've been looking at Ryan Fraser, Isaac Hayden and Matt Targett for example. If we'd signed those three, they'd would've done a great job for us as second choices and definitely wouldn't have ended up hanging around too long costing us money on long-term contracts and stopping us from pursuing higher quality players later.

We’ve signed Kelly, Osula and Greek Guy, who could all be the three you mentioned :D

Club is in a completely different place to when we signed the ones you mentioned, and the ones that could’ve came in, are more the young cusp players.

Like Rowe went for loan and £13m. We could’ve done that deal, shifted Miggy on for £5m just to get his wages off, and had Rowe be the fringe player that could develop, with the main RW signing coming next summer anyway. Same approach for CB. Instead went all in on one guy, and that’s it. Nickson must’ve had a a good portfolio of players, and it’s just been disregarded and some likely have moved elsewhere. Not even got another Minteh in the pipeline. Just proper shit all round.
