janpawel
Didn't Brighton sign 3 fairly priced, young RW's with upside in the Summer? Maybe they can donate one to us

In my opinion Guehi is a better footballer than Tomori but obs a lot more expensive, do you envision flipping Tomori in a couple of seasons? If so then you need the replacements on the radar now not when you are about to do the deals I agree with the first part. We absolutely should have looked at a highly rated youngster as an understudy this past summer. But that ship has sailed. On the second point, we're not going to just sign players with the view to eventually flipping them all the time. Otherwise, we might as well get to flipping Isak, Bruno, Botman and whoever else other teams show interest in. We're still going to need a strong core of some first team players we ideally keep longer term if we are to be competitive.

We do indeed - probs got lost in the myriad of posts but you seemed to mentioning resale values and Tomori a lot which prompted the genuine question... apologies if you perceived it as a dig

Hall is looking much better and Tino is still getting there but when you consider they cost (ballpark) the same as Bruno, Botman, players who come right in and lift the whole side, we can't keep spending that money on players who might be the finished article in a couple of seasons. Yep, there are two scenarios where we could justify making these sort of signings in the future: - PSR restrictions are dropped and we are allowed to spend big on as many players as we want to improve our squad. - We downgrade our expectations of Europe and are happy with a midtable finish. kingxlnc
We need a French Revolution type of January to salvage this season - 4-5 signings to pad out the squad and give us proper options Where is the equivalent of Sissoko for 2m Or a Debuchy type (but for RW) - maybe Tonali/Bruno have a best friend that can play RW (like Cabaye to Debuchy) Get rid of Trippier, Almiron, Targett, Wilson (if anyone will take him) Need to get RW, RCB, ST at the very least. I don't mind selling a purple (preferably Gordon) in the summer but we have to get someone in now

Zero
To be fair he isn’t wrong, we need that type of reinforcement if we want to have an exceptional second half of the season

And he isn't on high wages currently. Arsenal just did a similar deal for Merino at £30 million. He is 28. Trossard was also 29 when they paid £27 million for him last year. Spurs just spent £60 million(!!!) on Solanke. He is 27. Some odd examples given there given the regret shown by Arsenal/Spurs fans on the Merino/Solanke signings
BermyToon Posted Thursday at 13:29 Share Posted Thursday at 13:29 I think RW should be first priority this January. We have zero quality in that position.
alexf Posted Thursday at 13:38 Share Posted Thursday at 13:38 1 minute ago, BermyToon said: I think RW should be first priority this January. We have zero quality in that position. Yeah that's probably true. I'd probably rank it the same, especially as you don't want to be competing with Liverpool for an elite RW if they are looking for a future Salah replacement soon. RW - no current starting quality ST - Isak but then drop off to Osula or Gordon through the middle is vast CB - Schar, but getting older and no cover for RCB, Burn to Kelly is a big drop off at LCB, Botman may take long time to recover form, Lascelles no return date. We really need all 3 but we've been saying the same for about 3 windows. It's all to do with circumstances though, if we get lucky with injuries to current players then RW is clear priority. But we have muddles along with Murphy and moving others around for so long then maybe we can get by for another 6 months. With Isak being so fragile himself I think not having a genuine back up is a concern if we are trying to turn our form around. Schar or Burn picking up any suspensions or injuries at the moment also fucks us, not to mention Schar has looked off it alot this season. if we were able to spend this Jan then we could really attack 2nd half of season. If we don't then it's gonna be much of the same as the 1st half unfortunately and we'll be lucky to finish top 10.
AyeDubbleYoo Posted Thursday at 13:48 Share Posted Thursday at 13:48 I'm not sure we can sign a striker unless Wilson is off the books TBH... is this his last contract year? If not then it's going to be tricky unless we just write him off and don't register him for the next squad.

This was what I wanted last January and the consensus from people was we can't, because it'll impact qualifying for Europe Going to be same shit again. Just get rid of guys if any offers are there who are not considered first teamers come August 2025. No risk of going down, rather roll the dice of a thin squad and pack it out with limited youths in order to get rid of players ready for a fresh summer. Instead of rolling the dice and hope likes of Almiron make an impact that results in Europe.

There will a long queue for him. Re Bischof Its something we have to do with the squad - I think CB RW and CF needs 3 potential ready made starters (keeper too), then a CB, CM and RW/CF as talents we can develop - kind of like Minteh and Anderson types
