Bear with me on this, because it might be hard to believe, but I’m throwing this controversial opinion out there…..

it’s possible our expert scouting and transfer team might have done their extensive expert homework on any potential signings and poured over the stats to ensure the player is a worthwhile signing

Yes. Don't so condescending. I would happen to disagree

Howe has tried to bring him in twice.

Not to disagree as you seem connected, but was this because of PSR limits / trying to do some sort of player and cash exchange? To my mind it only makes sense if he’s Wilson’s replacement.

Cunha strangely makes sense for us because he has the skills of certain players that would need replacing:

  • Long shooting of Schar;
  • Set-piece/corner skills of Trippier;
  • Striking skills of Wilson;

So in a scenario where he is Murphy's replacement on the right forward position - then he simultaneously covers for Schar and Trippier's offensive skills if both of them are no longer playing. If Isak is out, then he becomes the covering striker, with Murphy on the right. In all scenarios, Cunha also has the creative vision to unlock teams who play a low block. His versatility is exceptional.

The only downside is attitude and workrate - being in a team with his compatriots, and being coached by Howe will go some way towards sorting those out. I'd be excited if Cunha joins us. Plenty of competition out there for a player of his calibre.

I don't think Cunha replaces long shooting of Schär. Schär gets into those positions because he is a centreback.

I see no point getting Cunha, only if he could be moulded in to some sort of right winger/no 8/striker -hybrid which would allow him to cover few positions.

With Cherki I see the technical ability and 1v1 skill, but I doubt he has the workrate or physicality for Howe's team.

I’m not connected in the slightest, but reliable journalists have reported on DCL since Howe arrived.

Quansah, Geuhi, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Collins or Branthwaite would potentially fit the bill. Cost permitting.

Guehi

So from this list I see two possibilities.

Guehi and Collins.

We will get rinsed.

One thing is for sure, the very top teams have a variety of players / skillsets for different situations which we don't at the minute

Cunha certainly gives us that

It's never free though. If it's true that he's on £100k at Everton, that'll be £5m+ plus whatever signing fee he gets. And at 28yo there's little chance we make much of that back if we sell him.

Compare that to someone like Delap, yeah he's going to cost £30m but that's only an extra £6m/year (compared to DCL) and plenty of opportunity to develop into a player worth twice what you've paid for him.

It's not just DCL's wages either.  If he were to be signed on £200k wages (for example) then every first team player earning less than him is going to start asking why they earn less than him whilst doing more for the team.  You sign one player on inflated wages and suddenly you have to give new contracts to half the team to keep them happy.

Do Bruno or Isak have contract clauses that they must be the highest earner? Giving a free transfer a higher wage automatically means increasing theirs too.

I only see this happening if we sell either Barnes or Gordon.

Ornstein mentioned arsenal admiring AG10 so who knows. I don't think selling Gordon Makes much sense for us though.

You play Cunha as RW - makes perfect sense to me - don’t need to do anything with Gordon

I'd be amazed if we sell AG when we've just qualified for Europe, even more so if we replace him with a forrin.

Or Barnes for that matter.

Yeah, I agree.

Cunha is incredibly versatile, and is so explosive, strong and skillful on the ball he goes past people and has the technique to deliver the ball from any part of the pitch.

Pretty sure I've seen him end up down that right channel and still cause so many problems.

The fee is big, but his versatility makes it worth it if we can do the deal.
