I think the only way delap comes here is if we sell Isak. Which even if we were to do that, he'd have gone elsewhere already.

I believe so, according to Football Manager anyway. We need a certain number of players trained at our club before they turned 21 (or something).

Mbeumbo would be one if want to make a statement. I don't think he's actually in that high of demand.

There's not a great deal wrong with the starting XI (I'd say Trafford and Huijsen would walk into the team, though). All four greatly strengthen the first 20 which has been our issue. People were saying the same about our window 2 summers ago and it's turned out perfectly. This seems a similar one.

I’m not sure we can afford Mbuemo and then upgrade the rest of the squad how we need to.

Market closed off for him really. Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal don’t need him as a priority. Chelsea have countless wingers with more coming. Man Utd won’t be signing wingers. Spurs and Villa have players tied up in those positions already, so would need to sell first.

 

Probably could see Brentford selling for max £50m, because they can’t drive a higher price.

I’m not sure it is defeatist. In a non psr world Delap would snap our hand off, but I very much doubt we have the budget to be signing a £30m back up striker when we have other priorities.

Always thought if Salah left Liverpool Mbeumo would be his replacement. He’s ideal for us. I’m hoping he’s our guy. Can fill in and play as CF too.

Must admit I'm warming to the idea of DCL, mainly due to the fact we're going to need quality and quantity for next season. The main attraction is the lack of a hefty transfer fee tbh, he'll obviously be on big money if he signs but we need to box clever and getting him in on a free fills a slot without the need to shell out £30m+ on a back-up. We'll have to take advantage of the free transfers and loans this summer and DCL could be a classic example of how we do it

I'm so torn about DCL. his wage demands would be high as mentioned and his goal record is thoroughly uninspiring. Two good seasons in his career which feels like an eternity ago.

We probably could but a signing a better player would probably mean a biggish fee and eat into the budget so we compromise in a different position. Plus it can't have been any fun at all playing CF in Dyche's Everton for the last couple of years. I'm thinking it could well be a good move for everyone.

 

If he stays fit. That's also an obvious concern

Yeah I'm constantly having to remind myself that this is likely a summer of compromise, Rafas bed sheet analogy in transfer window form if you will.

Exactly. He's not the dream signing by any stretch but I think it's a sensible one. He fills a position we need and he's a 'free' transfer, we can look to shell out bigger to fill other holes in the squad with a couple of loans in there too

The potential is to sign him up, get a season’s worth of goals via European, cup and newly promoted teams, then flip him to Wet Spam, Saudi or another newly promoted club for £15-20m. He’d be about 30 and the age we *should* have sold Callum Wilson at.

As a backup option DCL would be decent I think. Whenever we play Everton he's always a handful and causes us problems, plus you'd think Howe would get more out of him and get better service to him than he was getting under Dyche. Not every signing can be a £30m+ player to go into the starting eleven, we need a squad of reliable players

I like the idea of having a target man option, where we can be a bit more direct, but I can't see us signing DCL.

 

His injury record and availability v his wages wouldn't be worth the risk.

 

Delap is more likely to join a club where he'd be first choice (Forest would be a good fit), but he'd still get plenty of game time here and the pathway to the England team is there for all to see.

 

It'll probably end up being neither. I suppose it depends how much we intend to sink into the RCB and RW positions.
