NUFC Transfer Rumours

I don’t want someone to cover - I want a second striker

My suggestion to sign one player to be first choice LW, first choice GK, first choice CB and backup striker wasn’t entirely serious.

Taking a step back for a second, who we sign doesn't actually matter, I think Eddie has shown he's more about the system than the individual so achieving some tactical goals would be a better way to look at things.

Here's 2 I'd like us to fix.

1, pace at the back: we need to be able to push our lines higher without being scared about people running in behind, we basically need someone who's rapid (think in the mould or Van Der ven, being good aerially would be a massive bonus)

2: we need to be able to extert more control over the game, basically someone who is calm and composed in midfield and who help settle some nerves. Basically an inverse Bruno, less mad passion more cold calculation.

Obviously we have a lot of other areas to improve but if we can fix just these two things we get 10 more points next season imo.

Surely getting rid of Targett needs to be a priority as well

Isn’t he on massive wages? Lascelles shouldn’t have been extended for me either, also get rid of longstaff and push on with miley more

There a couple we need to shift to bring some money in, has to be a constant stream and not a mad dash when we look under the cosh.

Willock, Wilson, Targett, throw a dart at the goalkeeping department, Longstaff (unlikely now with club-HG player rules?)  to name but a few.

I’d not be opposed to moving Gordon/Barnes on and replacing him with a top quality creative LW type who can shift inside to play LCM in games like yesterday where we expect to have plenty of the ball and need to break teams down.

Someone like Eze for example would allow us to go with this against stronger teams where we need to win the midfield battle.

                        Tonali

          Bruno                 Joelinton

New RW                                     Eze

                         Isak

Then against weaker opposition (or if we’re chasing a game and need to change it) we bring in Barnes for Joelinton and go.

                       Tonali

          Bruno                  Eze

New RW                                Barnes

                        Isak

Operating closer to a 4-2-3-1 with Eze playing more advanced than Big Joe does generally.

Went with keeping Barnes because I think it’s easier to use him more rotationally, I don’t know if Gordon would accept it. I think with CL football there’ll be plenty of football for both of them but I don’t think it’s ideal that both of them seem only capable of playing (or willing to play?) in one position. There’s been little to suggest that the two of them can play together and be effective, which isn’t great.

Eze is also just an example, I’m not sure he’d be the best player for the role but just the idea of someone who is first choice LW but also us the versatility to play inside and be more of an asset in breaking teams down.

Great shout all that 👏

Other clubs he’s not going up against isak, if a player comes out and says I want guaranteed minutes then it’s obviously his top motivation (behind money) and all the other teams can guarantee him more. We can offer him lots yes but some on that list will offer him a starting place week in week out if that’s what drives him.

There are no direct quotes! We’ll soon see. I’d love him here, but I’m sure we’ll grow and step up as a team with whoever we get in.

We dropped far more points because Isak and Joelinton were unfit or not playing. Back up for these two has to be the priority.

Assume nothing on the departures board , apart from Wilson.

Longstaff is surely away?

I still think Gordon will be too - interesting summer ahead either way!

Absolutely, those areas need addressing and I'm sure we will. My post was more about the names don't matter as much as what they can do tactically.

Agree on Gordon too think he’ll be the “surprise” one to go

We'll sign none of the Mbuemo, Delap, KWP, Guehi style names we've been linked with tbh.

Reckon they'll all be mad out of the blue next-gen names from France, Spain, and South America.

Caulkin and Waugh saying our adidas deal does include a champions league qualification clause, meaning we get more money from them. Also says minimum 37 million extra from champions league next season.

Unsurprisingly, Guehi, Trafford, Elanga and Mbeumo named as potential targets in their article.
