NUFC Transfer Rumours

Do they?

A lot of talk about ‘the budget’.  I think about 10-20% of our revenue is dependent on performance. And we can take a risk based approach - we don’t know what that risk decision is. And it can change.

Like the difference between getting KO’d from the CL group phase and a run to the QFs is what? £10m+ all in? That covers the amortisation of Elanga’s fee.

I don't like the noises about prices being too high. The reality is that the prices are going to be high, and we need to have a squad in place for pre-season to give ourselves a fighting chance across 4 very difficult fronts. At some point they're going to have to bite at the asking price.

Slightly concerned about the sense of drift in ownership - where is the new CEO? Who is actually running things at the moment?

I'm sure the club can pay these inflated prices, BUT that will mean we get less players in.

So 4 players at around 30 - 40 million, or 2 players at 60 - 70 million 🤔

It is indeed a quandary.

No it's not. You sign which ever scenario has the most quality.

Pointless signing 4 knackers on the cheap because of fan pressure.

If we can get 4 players at good value, great. If not, get the wallet out and make sure what we do get is top quality.

It's always quality over quantity, unless we can do both.

I think it is a quandary working out who to sign at what price, but I don't think it is on those binary terms.

I think the point is that, for where we immediately want and need to get to, at some point we are going to have to pay asking prices and those prices are likely to be high because the players we want and need are good. Any other team thinks that we have loads of money and knows that we have an urgent need to retool ahead of the coming season. I am sure there will be circumstances to exploit (e.g. other teams in PSR bother) or players that are, by some metric, undervalued. I am also sure that we are going to need to handover significant coin if we want to make significant improvements to the squad. I don't think that is the same as saying just spend whatever, now; but I do think it means that to do this season proper justice we should have some serious squad improvements in by pre-season or during its infancy (such that another summer long squabble about prices, like Guehi last year, does not hamper things).

I am incredibly keen that we hit the ground running and prepared next season. With timely improvements we can give a good account of ourselves on all fronts. Heavy spending in the next 2 months is required to make that realistic in my opinion, so at some point we're going to have to do some of it.

Ideal window for me is:

In
Trafford (30 mill)
Guehi (40 mill)

Ederson (40 mill)
Jao Pedro (50 mill)

Akliouche/Elanga (40 mill)
Ramsay (30 mill)
Total: 230 mill

Out
Longstaff (15 mill)
Willock (25 mill)
Targett (5 mill)

Kelly (20 mill)

Dubravka (5 mill)

Vlachodimos (10 mill)

Total: 80 mill

Net Spend: 150 mill.

Probably impossible to do.

People had same thoughts when we signed Livramento and Hall, that it was ignoring key upgrades in favour of less vital positions. But it didn't take long to very much see the vision. This will very much be the same.

As fans we tend to focus on the ceiling and how high we want it to get, whereas Howe and his team also have an eye on the floor and bringing that up too, both are equally important.

We are also getting to the point where we will need to start raising our wage ceiling if we want the best players. At the moment we will lose some players because we just can't pay as much as the cartel. We've done brilliantly to keep punching above our weight, but that won't continue forever.

Its probably (understatement) too many changes but you could add Gordon to the outgoings (£80m?) and bring in Kluivert for £45m bringing the net spend a little closer to £100m.

I wouldn't do that trade in isolation but overall the team is much stronger in this champ man tastic scenario

Kelly’s already gone and sits in this season’s accounts :) and in terms of the rest, the goalkeepers fees would be divided by ten (and even then I’m not sure we’d get £500k for Dubravka).  No-one is paying £25m for Willock these days, and Longstaff has a year left on his contract.

Yep, reckon we might Get:

10 M Longstaff

15M Willock

10M Vlach

5M Targett

Replace with a 40M midfielder

We won't sell Vlach for 10m because that would be regarded as a loss for PSR purposes which would make our situation even worse. He basically has to sit on the books or go out on loan until his book value depreciates more.

We need to flip him as a PSR deal. Pay 15 mill more for someone and send him the other way for 15 mill.

In real terms it isn’t as we have signed and sold around him anyway

That’s incorrect, if we sold him now for £10m we would show a £6m loss due to amortisation

That wasn’t the fee we signed him for though - look at the records
