Feels strange that any journalist would speculate as to how much we will spend when the club can't possibly know which targets they are going to sign or how much they will cost.

 

For example signing Mbuemo for 65m would limit us slightly more, on the next signing, than spending 50m on Dibling would.

 

I'd like to think we have enough to go and sign two quality players without having to start counting the pennies and beyond that we can start getting creative with player sales or even finding potential loan deals like we did with Hall.

Then 2/3 other players that I'm hesitant to say are squad players but some might be or some might be young players like Tino and Hall we can get up to speed with plenty of games.

Journalists need to be very precise with their claims, specifically - is a £100m "war chest" representative of the total value of the deals, or what we're actually going to spend *this* summer?

 

£100m could easily be amortized over a five year deal at £20m/yr (not including wages), so if we spend £100m this summer, that could end up being £500m worth of paper value. It wouldn't bc of wages, etc but you get the idea. That's an extreme example but that's why the specifics matter.

True but I’d expect close to 150m with barely any expenditure the last 3 windows and sales in Jan. I’m sure they’ll bring in some good players but 100m isn’t much really unless there’s some mega wheeling and dealing.

I think the genuine shock at the Mitchell decision earlier in the week is a signal of how little they're actually getting. Absolutely no-one saw that coming or even speculated he was leaving or about to leave. The leaks have dried up completely to the extent that they're either totally guessing and printing it OR they're printing the stuff the club have chosen to let them know. That's it. To me that would leave us woefully short for PL/CL campaign.
