The 'foul' on the keeper isn't a foul if it's on an outfield player. Its a soft as fuck decision

That's because it would likely be meaningless in the outfield but against the GK it's the difference between a goal or not directly.

Take away the pen and they are very even numbers. Happy with three points but the performance was poor and at least couple of starters got a rest. ~0.6xG (without the pen) at home is still really disappointing.

3 points was the most important thing today, but many elements to improve on .  Think this will lift everyone though, what a week to come.  Think the CL is a bit like the Cup Final was last year for some of the players, a distraction but not a positive one. Once the CL starts, I think we will chill out a bit and start to relax and play our game again.

Strange the intensity seems to have vanished but I was glad to see Longstaff back in the side, besides some of the comments about him today.  Think he does so much off the ball and breaks stuff up - something we have been missing this season IMO with the prior midle three.

Remeber, this is a young squad with much to prove and improve.  It will come, we just need to believe in EH and it will come good.

Expected threat, no idea how it's calculated but it takes into account more than just shots unlike expected goals.

So it will very likely be something meaningful - nice one, cheers.

Agree that the game was very even, I just fail to remember Pope having a lot to do. Their keeper was definitely the busier. This one won't be first on MotD tonight, that's for sure.

Great result. Now above Man U and Chelsea, so someone else's struggles can be used to fill column inches.

First clean sheet in what seems like an age (minus Leicester home)

Exactly this. The bloody narrative at the start in the commentary with how "so much has been made of newcastles poor start, that it's a disaster and is it time to panic?"

Rancid. Liverpool was a tough loss and fine margins, we should have won at a canter. Missed chances galore could have seen us in the top 6 and a completely different picture.

Brighton was a poor performance but we still had lots of chances, man City we got outplayed but again had chances.

Fuck the narrative and hopefully the lads can ignore it now and move on.

Slightly harsh on Anderson.

Delighted with the three points. A clean sheet is very nice as well. Thought Bruno did some nice things, Barnes and Wilson good. They are hard to play against and are dirty bastards. Not a vintage performance but the sort of win we need to grind out.
