NUFC Injuries and Suspensions

I think many are assuming or hoping once players come back they are gonna stay fit in the 2nd half of the season and we can catch up any lost ground.

Unfortunately it's just as likely players like Isak, Wilson, Willock will continue to pick up knocks.

We are also lucky that some other crucial players like Bruno, Trippier, Schar and Gordon haven't picked up any issues so far.

If we drop out of Europe or any of the cups then I guess the schedule will ease. But unfortunately this whole season is probably going to be a real strain on squad resources.

We’ve got to have 3-4 due back before the end of December surely?

Would say Botman, Barnes, Wilson, Longstaff and Willock.

Although a little bit unsure about the last two.

Wasn’t Anderson ruled out for 8 weeks about 10 weeks ago ? Don’t seem to have had any update about him at all for a while.

Howe said in one of the pressers recently that it was a 12 week injury.

So middle to end of Jan would be the expected return based on that.

Burn is a surprise like. Probably the least needed out of everyone given how things have progressed since his injury,  but welcome nevertheless.

Wilson, even if only capable of 10/15 mins, would be a massive help.

Howe did sound a little more positive injuries-wise in the clip Radio Newcastle put out on Twitter.

Howe’s post match presser asked specifically if Barnes was close to returning:

”No, he’s not one of the closest players”

Which is obviously a bit shit, as it sounded as if he would be ready about now, but putting a (heavily) positive spin on it, it may well mean probably Botman and maybe Willock or Burn aren’t far away.

It hasn't half put a downer on the season in what should have been the club's best and most exciting for years heading into it.

We are still reasonably placed in the league, still in Europe with a more than 50% chance of still being involved in some capacity in February, and still in the League Cup, and a million miles away from where we were just 2 years ago, but at the same time, the season does kind of feel a bit of a write off, and it's very easy to feel sorry for yourself, which I'm sure, at least behind the scenes, the club will be.

Never seen anything like this before. To have 12/13 out for at least a month, some longer and missing 5/6/7+ matches all at the same time is unheard of.

I'm sure we will continue to get injuries in early 2024, and going forward, due to our style, but hopefully not missing this many at the same time. Plus, going forward, the likes of Ritchie and Dummett, mainly there for their character, won't be around and there will be better options among the 25 in case of crisis, plus there will likely be a lot of good young'uns around who don't need be registered, like 20m Brazil or Argentina 19 year olds, and not local lads on the bench who will more than likely end up at the likes of Hartlepool, if they're lucky.

It really is easy to sometimes forget that this time 26 months ago, just over two years, we still had Ashley and Bruce.

Add Isak, Schar, and Joelinton to the list.

Maybe it’s a PL league rule whereby if a player returns from injury another must be sacrificed?

Thought it was a bit weird that Burn - Longstaff and Wilson returned and we didn’t nominate 3 players to get injured
