Sid Posted January 8 Share Posted January 8 6000 of us at the weekend at their place and most of the bother seems to be with their own fans fighting each other. Could this be the future of fixtures known for violence? Not just us, all the big derbys where violence often occurs. I have family in the police and believe it or not most of them don't want to go to work and be in the middle of 2 crowds trying/pretending to assault each other who then slag the police off from behind their screens when they get home. No ticket until you get in the bus, stewards all over, a little freebie from the club, no one gets hurt. Yes it's a bit sanitised but I suspect many weren't around for the unsanitised 1970\80s. Optimistic Nut Posted January 8 Share Posted January 8 I don't see the problem with it like. It's hardly like you can mingle with the home fans, it's about 30 minute trip. Get in and out of the ground safely, enjoy the match, and you're back in town about an hour later. Maybe someone who was there can give any issues caused? The bus then stopped at Scotswood road for 45 minutes waiting for the entire rest of the busses in our slot to fill up. Lads asked the coppers if they could nip off and into the bushes for a piss, and they were told they'd be nicked and given a five year ban if they did. Never seen anything as dramatic in my life as police motorbikes speeding past us as we arrived at each roundabout, to stop traffic from any other exit entering the roundabout while the convoy approached. Been no bother at their place for a while too. People aren't as hard when there aren't lines of coppers separating them. Treat people like animals and they behave that way. Superior Acuña Posted January 8 Share Posted January 8 (edited) I did the bus convoys for all the derbies I've been to (all from 99/00 to 10/11, plus 12/13) and I always fucking loved it. The convoy is such a site, never seen anything like it, all arriving in sunderland together getting abused. It's class. Don't know about it being forced like, but I'd always choose it. Theu kept us back far too long and it became a bit of an issue. Anyone not physically fit would have either had to struggle like mad or wait an extra hour or so. Is this reasonable? Ed210 Posted January 8 Share Posted January 8 I don’t think anyone in the police wants derbys at all, means cancelled rest days, bans on taking leave, personal plans spoiled. Contrary to the RTG view that all the coppers are mags and were on triple time on Saturday a lot aren’t interested in football and a cancelled rest day means no extra payment just a lieu day to take another time (which will probably end up being a Tuesday in February hen it’s cold and pissing down) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Superior Acuña Posted January 8 Share Posted January 8 I don't recall any particularly long delays in previous years. Think there were typically 40-50 buses in 2000s and ran smoothly AFAIK. Maybe it was the bigger scale. For me it helped the game feel like much more of an event, unique experience, never heard of anything like it in sport of thousands travelling together from one city to another.
