6000 of us at the weekend at their place and most of the bother seems to be with their own fans fighting each other.

Could this be the future of fixtures known for violence?

Not just us, all the big derbys where violence often occurs.

I have family in the police and believe it or not most of them don't want to go to work and be in the middle of 2 crowds trying/pretending to assault each other who then slag the police off from behind their screens when they get home.

No ticket until you get in the bus, stewards all over, a little freebie from the club, no one gets hurt.

Yes it's a bit sanitised but I suspect many weren't around for the unsanitised 1970\80s.

I don't see the problem with it like. It's hardly like you can mingle with the home fans, it's about 30 minute trip. Get in and out of the ground safely, enjoy the match, and you're back in town about an hour later.

Maybe someone who was there can give any issues caused?

I'd also point out there was virtually no bother when Sunderland played through here last time when they had no official escort and could make their own way from central.

Been no bother at their place for a while too.

People aren't as hard when there aren't lines of coppers separating them.

Treat people like animals and they behave that way. Treat people with respect and the overwhelming majority will act sensibly

Also camera phones, CCTV and banning orders mean even if you do kick off there’s likely to be a lovely trail of evidence leading straight to your door and employer. Is it really worth it?

I did the bus convoys for all the derbies I've been to (all from 99/00 to 10/11, plus 12/13) and I always fucking loved it. The convoy is such a site, never seen anything like it, all arriving in sunderland together getting abused. It's class. Don't know about it being forced like, but I'd always choose it.

It's not a 30 min trip at all. I set off from Felling at 8am and arrived at the SoL just before 11.

Theu kept us back far too long and it became a bit of an issue. Anyone not physically fit would have either had to struggle like mad or wait an extra hour or so. Is this reasonable?

Hope not. Was shit. Put on a double decker at St James Park with no toilet.

The bus then stopped at Scotswood road for 45 minutes waiting for the entire rest of the busses in our slot to fill up. Lads asked the coppers if they could nip off and into the bushes for a piss, and they were told they'd be nicked and given a five year ban if they did.

Never seen anything as dramatic in my life as police motorbikes speeding past us as we arrived at each roundabout, to stop traffic from any other exit entering the roundabout while the convoy approached.

Wouldn't do it again

I think if bladder control is the benchmark then you've got a problem.

The Metro doesn't have a bog and whilst you can jump off to have a slash in Maccy Ds, for eg, lagging in bushes is illegal ?

Drink shorts ?

Whilst I'm not saying they all were, from the videos nufc posted it seemed like there was a heavy contingent of all older boys there?

Anyone there notice this or am I just seeing things.

I should probably expect that with 6k tickets available that you would get a pretty mixed demographic like.

Just an observation, not sure what/if any effect that would have like.

I don’t think anyone in the police wants derbys at all, means cancelled rest days, bans on taking leave, personal plans spoiled.

Contrary to the RTG view that all the coppers are mags and were on triple time on Saturday a lot aren’t interested in football and a cancelled rest day means no extra payment just a lieu day to take another time (which will probably end up being a Tuesday in February hen it’s cold and pissing down)

Not for me like

Queuing starting round the old barker and Stonehouse. Took 45 mins before getting to the bus. Stopped on Scotswood road for an age. Escort barely reaching 20mph

Herded into a cramped concourse with overpriced food/drinks with still 2 hours til kick off

Think all this added to the sanitised atmosphere.

Easy money for the coppers

Coming back I was one of the lucky ones was back for just after 20 past 4 so was pleased with that mind

Easy money? There wasn’t any extra money.

Na no way, was like a big family outing with cereal bars and water.

Also apparently cost the club £150k. I know there won’t be 6k fans next time but half of that is still a decent amount.

So they're still getting what they're entitled to?

Fair enough most them mightnt wanna work it but they know what they're signing up for

But there was probably more than ever working due to it being a bubble trip. I seen police from Cheshire and North Yorkshire ffs. Pure overkill.

I don't recall any particularly long delays in previous years. Think there were typically 40-50 buses in 2000s and ran smoothly AFAIK. Maybe it was the bigger scale. For me it helped the game feel like much more of an event, unique experience, never heard of anything like it in sport of thousands travelling together from one city to another.

I think it was just the quite unique situation given the massive allocation and the bother that happened the last time we played each other.

I don't recall much bother the last time we played each other in 2016 and actually the police rightly went to a more relaxed approach after what happened in 2013.
