James Trafford: NUFC in talks with Burnley over £30m transfer (Various)

Time for an upgrade on Pope for me, lively shoulder socket and a player that dips into panic mode several times in a game. The Arsenal fans were lapping it up any time his kicking was put under the slightest pressure a few weeks back,it's quite ridiculous. If Trafford does sign, he's hoyed straight in

Goalkeeper passes last season.

Just reaffirms what we see in games, our defenders are really reluctant (and likely a tactic too) to even pass to Pope. Because it’s not like he always launches it, it’s just the defenders rather launch it themselves then pass to Pope in case his control bounces 5 yards forward.

Probably in the minority here, but I'd rather be closer to the bottom of that list than the top tbh. Nowt I hate more than defenders and keepers fannying on with the ball.

We're the 3rd lowest for launch % mind, i.e only spuds and Man C booted long less often then us. Eddie Howe's fannymen army!

Note: checked and 'Lauch %' is defined as:

"Passes that were launched [duh!]

not including goal kicks

passes longer than 40 yards"

And very possibly less comfortable with his hands, Trafford so far one season in the prem and didn’t do well, Burnley with pope always survived and went down first season he left and we’ve managed CL twice and won a cup with him, the final we lost was when we didn’t have him. “As good as the rest of his game is” is a massive understatement imo. People are saying “chuck £40m at him and get him straight in first team”, I’m just glad the club seems to be not as gun ho.

I know a few Burnley fans and last year they were saying that, that he was a flapper on crosses / cornrrs. They're not saying that now though, seems he has come on a lot in that area, although, obviously it's easier to look good in the Championship, but then again it's a very physical league.

Lucas Chevalier, his market value on Transfrmarket is higher than Trafford, equal with Mamardashvili and Verbruggen. Highest valued keeper on there is 40m euro and Chevalier is 30m. He's in top 10.

How much would Chevalier cost? Unless it's a huge saving I think Howe would rather just pay the £40m and bring in his top choice. Realistically I think we'll end up compromising and paying between £30-40m for Trafford. Howe wants what Howe wants.

Caulkin in The Athletic today:

"The problem is Burnley, who are reported to value Trafford in the £30m-£40m bracket; for context, £30m is the most ever paid for an English goalkeeper, a distinction that belongs to Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale. Multiple sources at Newcastle have told The Athletic they are unwilling to spend this much; they have previously scouted Joan Garcia, who is now moving from Espanyol to Barcelona, and retain an interest in Lille’s Lucas Chevalier."

Nothing new, but reassuring that we wont overspend here

That really isn’t overspending on a potentially world class keeper who we could get 10 years out of.

Yea. Pickford moved like 10 years ago (was he even capped at that point?), so in todays value that must be like £50m+

Then Ramsdale was overpaid. Think £30m is right ball park, and if it’s performance related add ons for extra £5m+, that’s perfectly fine as you want those bonuses to be achieved.
